And the LORD God planted a garden Eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. - Genesis 2:8
Since 1980, the East Ward Missionary Baptist Church has been a vital house of worship in East Harlem. Located at 2011 First Avenue, across from the East River Houses, East Ward occupies a former branch of what was the Chase National Bank (whose name is still visible). The building was constructed in 1925 and been transformed from a place where earthly treasures were once kept to a place where eternal treasures are now proclaimed.
Led by the Rev. Dr. Sean P. Gardner, Sr. since 1993, the East Ward family has expanded, but remains one of the friendliest and most accessible churches in the city. Everyone is welcome at East Ward, a place known for great Gospel preaching and great Gospel music.
In partnership with its sister church, the Memorial Baptist Church, East Ward is now pleased to welcome visitors from across the globe to worship services each Sunday.
Whether you are young or old; male or female; rich or poor; single, married, divorced, or widowed; from the North, South, East or West, come to East Ward. You will be glad you did!
