About Urban Arts Space offers free exhibitions, performances, activities all in the historic Lazarus Building in the heart of downtown Columbus. Story The Ohio State University's Urban Arts Space is a 10,000 sq.-ft. exhibition and non-traditional performance space located in the heart of downtown Columbus, between the Columbus Commons and the Scioto Mile, inside the historic Lazarus Building. Founded in 2008, the Space showcases work by local, national, and international artists. Through free public exhibitions, programs, performances, and events, the Space offers hands-on experiences in the arts and professional development opportunities for Ohio State University students and faculty, and the community. Programs include poetry readings, film and video screenings, crafts, children’s activities, art making classes for adults and students, lectures, artist talks, exhibitions, receptions, tours, and more. Mission To foster inspired experiences in a dynamic creative space for The Ohio State University students, faculty, and staff and the Columbus community through free art exhibitions, arts-focused programs, and educational opportunities. We encourage open dialogue, creative collaboration, and community engagement through free and diverse programming We connect The Ohio State University to the Columbus community We offer free, accessible programming for all ages We serve as a place for rigorous and hands-on arts experiences to empower Ohio State University students pursuing a career in the arts We enable Ohio State students to fulfill their curricular requirements and share their creative insights and work We are a space for Ohio State faculty and educators to share their research and creative work
