A National Historic Landmark, Tudor Place holds two centuries of history and family life and the largest collection outside Mount Vernon of items tied to George and Martha Washington. The estate was built in 1816 by an early Washington "power couple," Martha Washington's granddaughter, Martha Custis Peter, and her husband, Thomas, whose landowner father, a Scottish immigrant, was Georgetown's first mayor. Their estate, with its famed Neoclassical dome and 5.5 acres of landscaped gardens, was home to six generations of their descendants and many workers, free and enslaved, before opening to the public. Hear their stories. Walk through their history. Guided house tours offered hourly, Tues-Sunday. Events + programs throughout the year found @ www.tudorplace.org/programs.
