About First Baptist Church, Georgetown was founded October 5, 1862 by the Reverend Sandy Alexander, a former slave. Collins Williams, a licensed preacher donated a small piece of land at 29th and O Streets to be used for a church. Story Welcome to the First Baptist Church, Georgetown. We are a historic African-American church located in the Georgetown area of the nation's capital, Washington, DC. We are a small, friendly, family church whose mission is to "worship Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to promote Christian unity in our community and world."
