About:
About The Monteith House was built in 1849 by Albany founders Thomas and Walter Monteith, this house museum is said to be the most authentically restored Pioneer era home in Oregon. Story The Monteith House was built in 1849 by brothers Thomas and Walter Monteith. It was the first frame house built in Albany and they built the house with the centerline between their land claims. That way each of them could sleep on his own land. The Monteith family was instrumental in the development of Albany and with high aspirations named it after the capital of their home state: New York. Mission The Monteith Historical Society's mission is to provide a house museum of early Albany history and maintain the house and restore it to its original condition; to collect and display artifacts relevant to the pioneer period of Albany's development, and give the community and school children insight into pioneer life. Products The Monteith House Museum Gift Shop sells postcards, wooden toys, pioneer books, and more!
