Edward Murrow is a great school and I couldn't have chosen a better one for my daughter. A special thank you to my daughter's guidance counselor, Mr Rolof who does a fantastic job in assisting her when needed. He is always quick to answer my phone calls or follow-up with me. I was amazed at my first conference with the teachers how they all knew my daughter's name without checking their list. Thank you to all the educators at Murrow for your continued support in my daughter's life, including all the security guards for doing a great job.
I have two children who've graduated and one to be a senior this fall. Like most public schools there are problems, many borne out of budget crunches and challenges of today's environment. However despite this, my wife and I are grateful to Murrow for the nurturing job they've done in educating our children. The concern and effort to provide a genuine quality education and wholesome experience is indeed recognized from top level management and down. I applaud Murrow for their continuing efforts to advance the level of its students.
Absolutely amazing school! My daughter was challenged, supported and protected in this wonderful environment. The school offers almost everything a student could ask for. This school is for kids who can be diligent about going to class as it offers a flexible class schedule. It prepares the kids for college and the world in general. It is wonderfully diverse and the kids all work together well. I can't say enough about this "school of excellence."
Murrow made me the person I am today. Without the guidance of the teachers and staff, I would not have the confidence I have today. Murrow really does care about its students. My usual day in Murrow started at 7am taking dance classes, three AP credit classes, Intel a behavioral science program, and of course my free bands, in which I helped monitor. I then stayed in school until 8 or 9pm doing the amazing shows. Murrow was my second home for four years. The teachers allowed me to express myself, and I was always told I could do whatever I wanted to as long as I set my mind to it. The school prepped me for college and beyond. I made friends that will last a lifetime - not just with my fellow students but with the staff as well. Even after graduating 2014 I still like to visit and every time I do, it is like I never left. Send your child to Murrow and see just how amazing it actually is!
My teachers are awesome. Working with crew is the most amazing thing I've ever joined. At this school, I know I can reach my full potential here at Murrow. I am so glad I made the best choice of a high school than all the varieties of different high schools there is. Thank you Murrow so much for accepting me into this school and become a freshmen.
My daughter just completed her freshman year. She loves Murrow and so do we. So much for her to participate in. The SING performance, year end Dance performance, theater and musical performances were spectacular. The level of commitment from the students and faculty was awesome. Plus the level of the education. We love Murrow!!
I have a son who graduated in 2013 from Murrow who was in the music department. And now I have a daughter who is a sophomore and loving every minute in the school. Both my children participated in SING! and the musicals. My daughter is also taking dance and has performed in the Dance Ensemble in June. The administration and staff at Edward R. Murrow HS make you feel very comfortable when you are in the building.
I recently graduated from Murrow and my experience was amazing. The staff was wonderful and the environment was very welcoming. The school offers so many programs,I especially enjoyed its journalism program. Murrow prepares each of its student very well and ensures that every student is both college and career ready and well equipped for their future.
High school is what you make of it and the amount of freedom Murrow gives its students is sometimes more than the students can responsibly handle. Mr Barge is doing a great job coping with the situation that has been presented to him with the introduction of "No child left behind" and the elimination of the top 2%. Because of these two things Murrow student quality has been on the decline and more and more of the population is succumbing to the negative influence these students bring about. this school is distracting with hooligans in the hallways banging on the doors and screaming in the halls. the security guards don't do anything because they enjoy being liked by the rowdy students. recently a new guard has been enlisted and he seems to be taking his job seriously so maybe this issue will change before I graduate in 2016. The teachers vary. Most of the new teachers are either incompetent or non-engaging. However, all of the veteran teachers from before the administration change are brilliant. These people instill a love for learning and an interest in the topics they teach. in particular the best teachers I have had are for math in general, AP chem, and AP Euro but the AP Euro teacher has retired and more are to follow in the next four years. Overall, the school is not equipped to handle its own student population. if the building was a restaurant it would receive a failing sanitary grade. it has a diverse and extensive screened arts program for many mediums. Lastly, Murrow has access to midwood's field for PE classes and Murrow is rapidly developing sports teams. If you are looking for a school for a kid with a bright future, this kid better be really self motivated if he/she wants to succeed in Murrow and will walk out with a diverse experience.
I am a proud parent of three, my oldest son graduated 2 years ago from this great school. My second son will be a sophomore come fall and we are praying our youngest will be a freshman next year. The teachers are wonderful, the staff is extremely helpful and caring. My kids love this school!!!!
