Everything I have had from Empire has been delicious. The Bacon Fred Rice, Curry Beef Buns, Soup Dumplings, Noodles with Broccoli, are all excellent. On past occasions I have had the Chicken Skewers, all the other dumplings, and have never been disappointed. I would love to see them offer dine in at some point in the future. Vegetarian options: See Above! Dietary restrictions: They had vegetarian options as well as gluten free options. I was also able to ask for no egg in my fried rice which was amazing, as I don't love an egg in my rice.
I was here 3 years ago, the indoor seating was great but now only take out but the food is still great! We ordered a lot of stuff and we really enjoyed the food! I just wish they open the indoor seating again!
We ordered online and ordered mostly gluten free meals. I read some reviews that others with celiac disease had eaten here and it was safe. My daughter has Celiac and has for over 6yrs I got multiple meals for my daughter and she is not and hasn't ever been sensitive to cross contamination she only reacts to gluten by throwing up. I was confident she would be fine, but I was wrong. Although she thought the food was delicious she got glutened and spent the rest of the evening throwing up. I have no idea which meal did this. On the website you can select celiac when you order which gave me false confidence that they knew how to safely prepare gf meals. After speaking with the restaurant via Facebook they let me know they don't do anything special they just make those certain meals gf. They also have lots of non gf meals as well my husband ate the duck lomein and loved it. Something went wrong somewhere and some form of gluten was added to something she ate. So if you have to eat gf for health reasons I don't recommend this restaurant BUT if you're ok to eat whatever then they have some delicious options. Quite pricey too... for example almost 9$ for TWO chicken skewers. Although they offered no sort of resolution coupon, money back type of thing and just kept asking what they can do, they were polite and said if she needed to go to the hospital they would provide their insurance.
In honor of "Christmas Story", we decided to pick up some takeout. It was recommended by a colleague who lives in the neighborhood. We got hot and sour soup and a bunch of appetizers. All were exceptionally good. Very reasonably priced for the value received. We have a new go-to for Chinese takeout!!!
Delicious take out! It's always a win when steamed buns and bao are on the menu. The lobster buns are especially great.
The food here is excellent! The duck fried rice and kung pao chicken were so good and was more than enough for two people. The chicken potstickers and spicy pork bun were also so good; you really can't go wrong! Ordering online was a breeze and texting when you arrive for pickup is really easy. Hardest part is finding a place to park so you can pick up your food. I will definitely get takeout here again!
Empire is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in Portland. This is one of the few places I've ever been where every single item on the menu is fantastic! Unique items and delicious Chinese fusion dishes. Expect a long wait with no option to make a reservation, so unless you're going on a weekday in the winter you'll have to tough it out but it is well worth it.
Good experience overall. Funky vibe inside and attentive service. Empire's dishes strike a nice balance between authentic and accessible. We enjoyed what we ordered, particularly the pork and shao mai. The eggplant was ok, albeit sweeter/gloopier than yuxiang qiezi as you'd find it in China. Only real complaint was that the rice was oddly undercooked.
I wanted this unassuming hometown spot to be a gem so badly, but unfortunately a creative menu could not save it from the bland flavors of so many places around here. Duck lo mein, kung pao chicken, wonton soup, all the appetizer buns. I’d go back in a pinch for sure, but what a bummer overall.
This is without a doubt the best Chinese Food I have ever had. We got the Soup Dumplings and Lobster Rangoons. They were amazing! We loved it so much we went back a few days later and tried the Pork Buns and Teriyaki Chicken. We loved everything we got, but the Soup Dumplings were the best. We had excellent service during both of our visits. It is a little pricey, but definitely worth the money!
