Fante's Kitchen Shop

First time we had our kitchen knives sharpened pre-COVID, they were sharpened quickly and well done. Second time not so much. Took 4 hours to get five knives sharpened and when we opened them up at home, we were extremely disappointed. The clerk thoroughly checked the knives when we dropped them off which seemed like a good start. We were told 45 minutes. Then we were told an extra half hour. Then we were told they were on lunch break so they wouldn't be done for an additional couple of hours. That's a long time to hang out in the Italian Market. No call telling us they were done. And then to find out they did a terrible job. Our smooth blade knives were now slightly serrated. My husband had to reshape/resharpen all of the knives. One of our Japanese knives had a shape to it that was ground away. So disappointing after our previous experience. My recommendation is you ask who will be sharpening your knives and if they have experience doing so ... and ask how many knives are in line before yours so you get a better sense of the duration.

I miss going to Fante's, recently I ordered coffee beans on their website as I have not made a good espresso in a while. Fante's Riserva is the best! This blend of beans is really just perfect for my taste, the texture, the crema, the perfect bitterness not too much or too little, it's just my favorite. Order went through and was shipped very quickly, packed nicely and arrived in perfect condition in a very short time. Great job during stressful times, thank you!

Even COVID could not kill this venerable 100+ year old business. In a world of poor service i love that some people still care enough to really know what they sell and take the time to share that - thank goodness for small family businesses! If culture, ethics, and caring still matter to you too, then consider supporting them - you will not pay more but your purchase will make a difference. You will help a unique and diverse local community to thrive.

Highly recommend. Ordered a Mauviel copper lid from here in a size that was out of stock nearly everywhere. Price was fair. Lid was packaged with care and shipped quickly. Wish I'd have known about this shop when I lived in the Philly area 20 years ago.

No other place like it - a must-visit when in the 9th Street Market! I sure hope the staff is payed well and/or gets bonuses, the floor people are the nicest, most knowledgeable out there, what a great shopping experience!

I opted to purchase from Fante’s hoping to get knowledgeable service rather than ordering on Amazon at a cheaper price. I am so glad I did as Liana was so helpful offering suggestions for which Espresso maker to choose. She actually owns the same one I chose and gave me excellent tips on its use. Best service ever! Shop local!

Very impressive collection of pepper grinders, next time i need a good kitchen knife, i will go here as they had a great selection as well.

This is THE place for foodie chefs and anyone else who wants to feel inspired in the kitchen. The have absolutely everything for example, no less than 3 different types of cherry pitting tools!. The staff are very knowledgeable and relaxed and will happily take the time to explain all of the interesting products, including their own personal favorites. The biggest challenge here is to not give in to your impulses and buy more than you came in for though you'll still have fun with it when you get home!

Mecca! Love this place. They have EVERYTHING you want for the kitchen, but it's also a great place to get coffee beans. Staff are always a delight, very helpful and happy to be there. This place has a real strong family vibe that makes you want to spend some money on clever kitchen gadgets or fine rare salts. In summertime they serve cappuccino slushy "granita" at the coffee bar and it's the best cold coffee concoction I've ever had!
