Found this place entirely by accident, decided to splurge and get the Dino bone beef rib. It was amazingly tender and delicious, would absolutely recommend it easily fed me and my fiancé for $30. Friends of ours tried the pork belly and pork shoulder both of which were fantastic as well. The smoked Mac and cheese was alright, the spice blend they put in it is strong for the mild cheese they use.
Disclaimer: I'm a bit of a BBQ snob see my dozens of other BBQ reviews Not recommended. The food from this place is a mixed bag - ranging from awful do not eat to good. I can't even just blame one bad item, considering I ordered a fairly large selection of food. The good: The pork ribs were smoked well and decently flavoured. Nearly fall off the bone was perfect. Smoked wings were a treat, fairly smokey and meaty. Not sure why one would get smoked chicken instead. The okay: The fries, potato salad, and chips were fair, not much to write home about. The pork belly was also meh, not terrible but not great either. Barely smoked, no bark, and just tasteless. The awful: Brisket... Just bad. Do not order. Can we trim the brisket a tad? Seriously, not sure how you're supposed to eat that nor is it helping with the flavor See photo. Smoked and bark was decent, but meat wasn't very tender which was exacerbated by the thick thick slices. Abandoned after a few bites which I rarely do. Brussel sprouts were super oily. Inedible without eating it with bread to tame the oil taste. Also abandoned after the first third. Other: sauces, takeout, left over packing station is great for self serve. Not taking the cost of food into consideration, I would still not return.
The staff is friendly and makes good suggestions. The facility is clean with openly accessible sinks to wash in front of others. The meat is fast and hot with a good variety of sauces. The sides are mildy warm. Avoid the green beans. Bring friends to help you finish. Plenty of boxes to take it with you. This is a neighborhood gem.Food: 5/5
Didn't feel like much value for $34 not shown is the order of rib tips but I guess that's bbq sometimes. Brisket was ok but missing a true smoked flavor, burnt ends were average, rib tips were a bit tough and, again, missing smoke flavor. Mac and cheese was good albeit a bit clumpy, beans were liquidy but above average and the sauces were fairly decent. My major gripe is with the pickles and purple stuff that's dumped in with the meat. It's wet, it's cold and surprise..... it quickly makes the meat wet and cold.
If you need a quick bbq fix for cheap the rib tips can do it. 1/2 lb $8 bucks! Mustard and the garlic sauces are delicious. I also got the ribs and sliced brisket combo with coleslaw and fries.. the coleslaw is mayo based but not too creamy. It is perfect in my opinion and tasty. The fries are good but not the best. I love everything. I probably change the fries for something else. I travel all over the country and always stop for bbq. I’d give 8 out of 10. It’s not the best I’ve had, but it’s damn good. I hope this helps.
If BBQ greets you before you enter the restaurant you know your belly is going to pleased. I had the opportunity to try a little bit of everything on the menu. The standout for me was the chopped brisket sandwich and the burnt ends made with tofu. For every sauce offered there was a protein that complimented it. The sticky garlic sauce was really yummy and was perfect on the smoked wing
Loaded fries with brisket and Carolina on My Mind sandwich were both incredible. House sauces hit the spot and bonus for having multiple gansett beersFood: 5/5
I guess we came at the wrong time 3pm on a Saturday because review photos and Instagram photos make the food and everything about this place look superb. While the meat had good flavor, the service when ordering and the sides we ordered left much to be desired: - The Brussels sprouts were charred to a crisp - The mac & cheese was clumpy and dry - The coleslaw was not moist As a bib gourmand restaurant, we were expecting a Texas-worthy barbecue experience, but we’re giving it the benefit of the doubt that we came at the wrong time.
We were greeted immediately by welcoming/knowledgeable team members which was great!! We ordered the feed the family meal and it was excellent!! The ribs, rib tips, pulled pork, and chicken were all great!! We got the Mac and cheese, baked beans and fries for sides. We enjoyed all of the food!! We will def visit again when we come back in town!!
My whole family enjoyed the Federalist Pig! The food was great and the service was above par! Definitely had a great time with delicious juicy brisket and other amazing meats and sides.. I had the Chipotle green beans and absolutely loved them, in addition to an 8 out of 10 potato salad. I'm super picky about my potato salad. But, it was good, even if it wasn't the best I've ever had. I would definitely recommend Federalist Pig to friends and family and will be coming back!
