Fly Water Travel is simply the best in the business of adventure fly fishing. Their staff is knowledgeable and friendly and they are all about customer satisfaction.
I started fly fishing internationally over twenty-five ago and during my travels I've survived some real adventures, particularly in the first few years before I discovered Fly Water Travel. Fly Water will not book a trip for a client until one of the owners or their employees have physically gone to a location and thoroughly checked out both the fishing and the accommodations, and more importantly, they are knowledgeable fishermen and unfailing honest in their reviews and recommendations. Conditions and customs in the more remote parts of the world are frequently much different than those of us who live in the U.S. are accustomed to, equipment beaks down, flights are cancelled, fish and weather may refuse to cooperate and sometimes it's possible that expectations for a long anticipated trip are just higher than they should be. There is nothing any travel agent can do about any of that, but on the rare occasions that I've experienced a hiccup with a lodge or one of their intermediaries, Fly Water has always stepped in and resolved the problem to my satisfaction. I've tried the others, Fly Water is by far the best in the business.
Have booked several trips though Fly Water Travel over the last 12-15 years. Most recently to Mexico and Brazil in the last 12 months. Nothing but good things to say about them. They are always available to answer questions, prepare me for my trips, make sure my paperwork is in order and have the proper gear. They know their destinations and give you realistic assessments of the fisheries rather than just hype. They are true fishermen and fisherwomen who understand what the customer wants and go the extra yard to deliver. In particular, they set up two "trips of a lifetime" for my father and I steelhead fishing in BC. My father to this day says they are two of his favorite trips he has ever taken. Fly Water was a big part in making those trips work with excellent preparation, even setting up a spey-casting lesson for Dad in Sacramento pre-trip with someone they knew and recommended. I would recommend Fly Water Travel and have! without reservation.
These folks have kept me on the water 3-6 weeks/year for the past ten plus years. Detailed and knowledgeable crew have kept pre trip activities at a minimum and my focus on packing and fishing. Most of my travel has been in the salt to both established , well known outfitters , and a few exploratory venues . ALL have been an adventure and worth repeating. Hope they continue to bring more new opportunities to me and my fishing colleagues.
All in all a really negative experience concerning rooms, food and most of all hygiene: mouses and beatles were running all over the kitchen. Having paied almost 3.000$ I would have expected much more than this given that not even water was fully included apart from 4 bottles per day on the boats. Concerning to fishing it was ok but no big fishes as you could expect and probably it’s better on other areas of the island since on our side we were only 3 fishermen while there were many more on the other areas. I will share this feedback with the other members of my fishing club and on the official Italian flyfishing magazine. Really disappointed.
Cuba - JDR trip on the Tortuga The JDR is an amazing location , the amazement stops there. Flywater books thru Avalon we spent a lot more than those who booked thru Avalon . There were reasons, excuses, check prices , all excursions are booked thru Avalon. The Tortuga will be retired this year we heard was ramshackle not luxurious. Dining area is shared with roaches crawling over your lunch, every morning. The guides, arrogant, not helpful and seeing that we never changed flies, lazy.... all said the JDR is amazing , do not book on the Tortuga!
Had a nightmare of a trip to Cuba booked through them. Avalon was the operator. Missed most of our days fishing due to water in the boat gas tank. We paid for single hotel rooms but had to double up. Fly Water Travel was of no help trying to get compensated for the hotel and missed day's of fishing.
I have worked with Fly Water on a bunch of different trips from Steelhead to salt water fly fishing trips- they are the real deal and are a class act!
Great people, great trips, excellent info and follow thru
Great fishing travel firm who will go the extra mile to maximize your fishing adventure.
