Went to the sentara leigh ER with stroke like symptoms last week, was not denied a CT scan, or MRI. I made an appointment with a cardiologist at this office. Was seen today, and told that even though I have great risk factors for a heart attack, I will be given a cardiac CT scan to check for blockage in my arteries because this would not change those risk factors. I ask about TIAs which are mini strokes, and was told that was nuerological, even though literally in the lobby of the office they had a video on about it, and said to ask the doctor about it. I was dismissed by this doctor because Im not experiencing chest pains or shortness of breath right now. Ive had friends drop dead at 40 from a heart attack, with no prior symptoms. Complete waste of time and money, the doctor seemed irritated that I even made an appointment to see her. Something as simple as ordering a cardiac CT scan could not be for me. So now I just have to wait til january 28th to see a neurologist. I completely disgusted with sentara as a whole, and unfortunately they have a monopoly on medical care in south east virginia.
I had an appointment today and as a patient they showed no concern for my transportation breaking down on the way to my appointment still made it to the appointment 1-2 minutes in the grace period time to only get pushed out the door saying I have to reschedule and make another appointment which is far out from my original appointment date spoke with the district manager just for her to lie to me several times about what they could and could not do for me regardless of my symptoms of fluid retention and other concerns regarding my bp medication that my Dr prescribed me she told me they did not prescribe me the medication until I showed her their Dr name on my pill bottle to prove it to her she did not show any empathy whatsoever for my medical concerns nor my symptoms i was having she then told me they would check my bp only to come back to say there was no need then she told me I needed to go see my Primary Dr for my symptoms and told me there was nothing they could do for me even if I had seen my Dr today again I say just to push me out the door I definitely will follow up with the Regional manager or someone higher because this was handled unprofessional and your playing with people lives it was disgusting how this office & their staff handled everything I also asked staff at the front desk for the Regional manager name and contact information and they did not know. None of the staff knows who the Regional manager of the practice is I had to google it and even then no one knew if it was the correct information highly disappointed in the lack of support and medical assistance I was provided today.
Your blood pressure will go up just trying to make an appointment! Then you can wait 6 months for your appointment and then MAYBE they will get you in and if you switch doctor's in the practice you are now back as a new patient and you wait all over again! Doctor's switch their schedules and once again you wait a couple more month for an appointment they are rescheduling. Sentara should be embarrassed by the wait times! I am over it and my family has already sacrificed one family member who was so young who was waiting months for a valve replacement. I guarantee you that if they had a family member in need that they would find a way to fit them in to receive the much needed care! So you can spend all the time in the world changing from Optima to Sentara Health Care but you can't find enough time to tend to the patients and residents in the area! Spend that time recruiting!
Don't go to this group if your a black woman. Sat in there in the lobby for over one hour and witnessed several other 10-12 patients where called to the back within 5 mins. And one member of the team was outraged because I cancelled the appointment. My appt was 1:30 and arrived at 1:15. The last patient appt was 2:15 and arrived at 2:10 with the same MD. Was taken back at 2:12. The struggle is real.
Joy McCarthy is one of the most dedicated and empathetic professionals ive ever had the pleasure of receiving assistance from at a sentara facility. This upstanding woman deserves serious recognition.
Wonderful experience all around, from the free parking ramp to the front office, to the genuinely concerned and highly recommended doctors and nurses on staff.
