Good salads and brunch. The style of good could probably well be described as American, but without massive portion sizes. The service is ok, but the servers aren't that great at serving. They bustle around a lot, but don't really seem to get a lot done.
It's my 3rd time here and is more about the ppl than then food, I will say. I guess is a "chic" place to see and be seen. Not really impressed with menu , service nor food. Over priced for no reason. And ppl are just that, ppl. Nothing really interesting to find under pretentious botox, fillers & Gucci shoes. Who wears Gucci anyways. Vegan salad was ok.
Barneys is about to close, but Freds is still hanging on. Hope you continue to exist, here or elsewhere. Food is remarkable.
Probably the best steak I have ever eaten. A really nice place to go.
Great place to meet friends or clients or even stop by to get a bite or a drink alone. Relaxed but fashionable atmosphere where you can dress up or down. Attentive service and great table placing for privacy and nice bar. Fun to shop before or afterwards too! I love all the pizza's & their chicken with mashed potatoes is to die for!
First off, you may want to hurry and eat here because it's located within Barneys and may close along with the store. Having said that..... one of the best places for lunch in Midtown with their famous chopped chicken salad and a great lunch menu of all the basics. And the fries are awesome.
Fred’s is a New York City classic especially for lunch. The food is always good won’t blow you away but it’s tasty and there’s always a vibrant scene. If you’re trying to have a celeb siting this is probably the best place to start. The food is very expensive though.
I have been 3times, the first was fabulous because I had lunch. The second and third time was at the bar for the green tea mule. At the bar the bartenders are not very hospitable and actually act like they are doing you a favor. The green tea mule was just okay the second time and the third time just bad. Warm with 3 pieces of ice. So sad. Not going again.
My wife had a meal today that was the essence of mediocrity. The lettuce in the salads were brownish yellow, and the other dishes were poor. Because this was a celebration and she was not paying, no complaints were made. So if anyone is looking for poor overpriced food in elegant surroundings, this must be the place.
Fred's is an institution, and is located in almost all the Barney's locations nationwide. We came specifically to try the special Alexander Wang X Barney's pulled-pork sandwich, and it didn't disappoint. It was very delicious and highly recommended... The service was decent, but not extraordinary, though.
