The decor and ambiance is really great ! There are booths that have sliding doors . I totally agree with the other reviews. Japanese delicacies at its finest. The mushroom soup was slightly cold and lacked flavour. Will be going back to try out other dishes
The food was good and the staff were friendly. Got seated at the sushi bar where I could see how they make their sushi, decided to try some and it was really good. Their spicy duck and sizzling beef pot were very good as well.
Went there for Father’s Day and was enamored by the atmosphere. I put my bag after church and put it under my seat. We immediately got iced water and ordered quickly and got our food quickly. Amazing service and meal at FuGaKyu. I ordered the Oyakodon and it was okay I think I would have preferred something else but still really good! Little did I know I completely forgot my bag under my seat and the Maitre’d literally ran after me a block away to give me my bag that I left. 10/10 give him a raise
Walking inside I was really impressed with the decor and cleanliness. The staff was very kind and quickly sat us at a table. The menu had a variety of options to choose from. My family and I don't really eat seafood at all so we ordered ramen, teriyaki chicken, and chicken fried rice. The prices are kind of high but it's definitely worth it for the amount of food that was given. For the ramen I ordered chicken katsu as a topping and tonkatsu as a soup base. It was all delicious. The dining area also had the traditional sliding doors for privacy. Overall a great experience for Japanese cuisine.
This place is beyond amazing. You can get a private booth with a sliding door. Each item comes out as a visual and culinary masterpiece. Cocktails are good but not great. The food, ambiance and service all make it a five star place.
The food was good and the portion was huge. The service was also excellent. I was expecting a bit more so I wasn't that impressed with the taste, but overall it was good. I'll come back and try some other items on the menu
Let's start off with the good. We called and asked how long was the wait. They said about 1.5 hrs. We were meeting in the area anyway so we went in to check in person and a table is ready. And only 4 of the 5 in the party were there. Very cool and we appreciate it. The seating area was very dim. These old eyes had trouble reading the menu as did everyone in my party. It was nice to be in a little "room"... Basically a divider provided privacy. However, later another party took the next table over and it was just super loud. We ordered a bunch of apps...chicken karaage, agedashi tofu, spicy seafood salad and one from the specials menu - dungeoness crab set seafood salad with crab, 1 piece of crab sushi and 1 crab claw. The tofu was the next out those. The crab set was expensive at $30 for the portion, even for FuGaKyu standards. We got the Matsu platter which was 72 pieces and a few orders of sashimi. So the Matsu platter came out served in a plastic tray with some dry ice and a light for a smoke effect. I have to say it looked pretty cool at first. Then after eating a couple pieces of sushi, that novelty worn off fast! The bottom of the tray was filled with warm water which made the sushi warm. Chilled or room temperature, that's fine but a warm serving plate for sushi is a terrible idea. The rest of the sushi came in a smaller plate, also with dry ice on the side but plate was room temp. We still trust the sushi was fresh and finished it all. I did mention to the waiter that the tray warmed up the sushi but I understand he can't do anything about it. He said that's for the dry ice. We got tiramisu for dessert and that was alright too. The not so fun part, the bill came out to be over $100 per person. Food itself and the waiter was ok. The warm tray for sushi was weird. In the end, it was a pricey dinner for just an OK experience. We won't be coming back anytime soon. And as we were leaving, of course the waiter was bringing out sushi to another table on that warm tray. No thanks.
Lunch special is not what it used to be. I’ve been eating here for 20+ years and unfortunately I can no longer say the lunch special is a great value. The sashimi lunch special now only includes 3 slices of 3 types of fish. The soup miso soup I was served was so diluted it tasted like warm water. The server was kind enough to accommodate my feedback and brought out a mushroom soup instead.
This used to be one of the only authentic japanese cuisines you could find near Boston, but it seems to have been taken over by a Chinese immigrant ownership/management and it now is nothing more than a Chinese cuisine disguised under a japanese name. We ate here last weekend and everything we had tasted straight up Chinese. If I wanted Chinese food I would rather go to a Chinese restaurant offering Chinese menus. I’m never going back again.
First time here and absolutely loved the ambiance inside~ I wish I had taken photos to show you all, they even have a koi pond with tons of fish.. nice to enjoy when you’re waiting to be seated. The food did not disappoint and all very fresh! We ordered the seafood tempura, fugakyu boat, a spicy scallop roll and ikura nigiri tempura came out very hot which is a huge plus, interesting though, the shrimp had a panko breading and different from all the other pieces which I’ve never experienced before, usually it’s all battered the same — all of the tempura was still fresh and we ate it faster than it probably took to make We would come back here just to enjoy the atmosphere, truly feels like we’ve transported ourselves to Japan but luckily their food is good too so it’ll be a win win!
