Was told to be there at 9 am for MIP classes for step son, at 9:02 the doors were locked and lights were off. The on call counselor said they don't offer MIP classes when we called to see why the doors were locked. The staff seems to not know what the hell is going on and seems to be a lack of communication. I would not want to run a business like that. Make sure everyone knows what is going on and knows what to do. I do not recommend going to gateway for any help if they can't seem to figure out what is going on. Our business with go elsewhere and I will make sure everyone knows how bad that place really is.

I initially thought going to outpatient treatment here would help me to get back to a mindset that helped me in achieving over five years of sobriety. I have reassessed my opinion based on the therapeutic practices and outcomes present here. The attitudes and practices of a few loose cannons can leave you asking yourself how is this helpful. Personal opinion and biases are to be filtered through the ethical standards that have been set by the APA. Standards that eliminate or minimize harm to the individual seeking help. Counselors are not allowed to just say whatever, whenever you want. The therapeutic process is flexible to some degree in that there are various types of approaches and methods to support different issues that may arise. There are counselors here that practice such ethical behaviors, realizing that it's not about them or their goals. The lectures here are outdated and lacking in presentation (familiarity with subject) especially morning lectures. Subject matter of material is better suited for one on one or even groups that are getting closer to graduating or transitioning out of outpatient treatment. The overall intensions and effort are there, they are stifled by the office banter and unprofessional attitudes and practices of those who are more focused on your outward appearance. Hopefully you can overlook all of that, while you wait to see if you are lucky enough to get the therapist who values you above themselves. They do do exist. I like the peer supported drop-in-center they have, they are always friendly and eager to help meet a need even if you just need someone to listen. People who have no experience with addiction are not going to know how to connect with people who have.

Incompetently trained and condescending staff. Outdated treatment materials that assume low intelligence of clientele. I would stay away.
