I grew up here back when it was Skateland. My dad was a DJ and painted all the cartoon characters on the wall. They’ve long since been painted over but I still have fond memories of lock ins and so much of my childhood spent skating. It’s kind of come full circle with me having birthday parties here when I was a child to my own children having theirs here too. It doesn’t quite have the same nostalgia these days but still fun
If there was another skate center, I would take my kids. Unfortunately the owners do not have enough money to get this place up to par. Also, it is often under staffed. I leave bad feedback only when I have had several bad experiences. They finally fired the kids that were working here talking sh** to my kids and have a real dj, but AC is busted again, floor was fixed by scabs so you feel like you are riding on a busted interstate, came to the session today to skate___10 minutes no one at the front desk, paid $16 for two kids ok if they get to skate when session starts. Honestly, the traffic that flows through here probably isnt enough to cover the $50,000 worth of work this joint needs. With all that being said, I will still come because there is no other local skate rink, and my kids love to skate.
We went on a night where it was a fundraiser or awareness events for the LGBT community in Decatur. I hadn't personally been on skates since the days when this place was called great skate South! I had an incredibly good time and afterwards there was a drag show. And we've come a long damn way in a good way when you can watch your friends toddlers and 6 year old hand the drag queens a dollar after they're done dancing! Just an incredible fun night out! I cannot wait to go back!
Staff was very friendly. Owner was a good host and stayed visible for questions. Currently Under new management, so they are working on updating and improvements. Prices are very reasonable.
Was very fun. The floor needs some smoothing, but other than that, it was a great experience. It was easy to get in and out. Didnt cost much. Great choice of music for teens, but i don't really know about young children. Does need a bit of renovation and cleaning.
We had my grandsons 4th birthday party here. The party cost $135.00. When we arrived and started setting up for the party the guest started to arrive. At that time we was informed that each guest had to pay $5.00 dollars and if they was skating it was $7.00 per person. We went and talk to the Manager was a female she said that was the rule. I asked her why that wasn't explained when the party was booked. Her response was it should of been. We told her no such conversation had taken place. In fact when my brother had my nephews party just one week prior no one was charged the additional amount. At that time we asked for a refund. She was the was a no refund policy. She then said that she would let one parent in with their child and she wouldn't charge them the extra amount. My question is why pay the party amount and then charge extra for the adults. Will not be back..
Came here for the first time tonight fir family nightMonday night thought cost would be affordable, but it was $14 entry and rental fee for my daughter and I to skate for 2 hours. The rink floor and carpet throughout need repaired, so there were areas where it was hard to balance. My daughter and I did have a good time, and will return. Hopefully they will ofter discounts for the 2 hour family skate so that we can come more often.
Had a great time! Place has a new coat of paint so it's clean. Food is good. The skating floor needs some attention. Over all a good time.
I would never recommend this skating center to anyone!!! On this past Saturday, March 23, some family and friends and I we were in town for a church convention. We wanted to take the youth on an outing, so we decided to take them to George's Skate Center. While we were there, the kids had a great time, we didn't encounter any problems, until it was time to leave. It was literally about 5 or 6 mins after closing time and we had approximately 12 to 15 kids, for which we had to find coats and shoes. One of the female employees we later learned she was the owner's wife, came to our table and said, "you all need to hurry up, I have a dinner I have to get to and we're closed". She was extremely rude and unprofessional, but none of us said anything, we just continued to pack up and tried to ignore her rudeness! Then another female employee came and yelled at one of the kids that was with us because she wandered back to the rink. That's when I responded with, "there are 5 other kids on the rink and you said nothing to them, but yelled at the child that was with us. Her response was, "those are the owners kids". I said "well you can't treat kids like that," she doesn't understand that they're the owners kids. "I also stated, you have a very poor disposition and you're very rude and nasty and there's a better way that you could have said that". From there it got ugly!!! She said she didn't need "our kind" there African Americans and once she said that, another adult responded with, you should have told us you didn't want "our kind" here before we spent almost $200. Then she began yelling and called the police after other adults from the group tried to reason with her. We waited for the police to arrive. I guess she probably assumed that we had warrants and records and would flee once the police arrived; absolutely not!!! We waited on them and spoke with them. It seems that she's accustomed to dealing with a certain group of people and she categorized us as such, but felt stupid after she learned otherwise. I can say that she was as least truthful when she spoke to the police. She said that we did not yell, curse, or call her any names. So once again, the treatment we received from her was unwarranted! I asked the police why then did she call? What was her complaint? He said "honestly I think she was just embarrassed and didn't know what else to do" the police. He also told us that we were lucky that we didn't have to deal with the previous owner, because he was far worse. So apparently, this establishment has created a very poor pattern!
I booked the party on there website once I arrived for my son's party I found out they charged five dollars for the parent that was bringing their child to the party. It never stated on the website the fee for the parent to bring there child to the party. The manager very rude. I will never have another party there.
