I don't understand all the negative reviews. This place is amazing. Doctor care across disciplines is coordinated, the MyDocs app has test results show up within minutes of getting your tests. There's a pharmacy here and you can get your prescriptions almost immediately. I've never experienced care so loving and kind.
This review is not for the doctors/nurses, which are great at all the locations I’ve been to. The billing department here is downright awful. They incorrectly billed me for an annual well check, which is supposed to be fully covered. Should be an easy fix, you would think. Well no. It has been “under review” for the past three months. Each person I call says something else. They had a manager call me who wasn’t able to do anything and told me to just keep waiting. Last time I called the man said they serve many people, well they are either short staffed or grossly incompetent. It should not take three months to make a simple fix on a bill. Last time they said a manager would call but nobody did. So now I have to call them every week or so to follow up because they never do, and keep getting told to wait and wait. Do better.
This place was neglectful and uncaring at every possible level. I was having a prolonged adverse reaction to oral contraception long after I stopped taking it, and was concerned about a possible endocrine imbalance. When I originally booked my appointment, it was at the beginning of Covid, so there were naturally lots of snags and delays. Since I'm on Medicaid and all other providers were unavailable at the time for one reason or another, this place was my only choice. I booked an appointment with an endocrinologist and was told the appointment would be 6 months out. This, as I understand, was happening a lot with specialist wait times and not entirely unheard of. But then they called me the day before the appointment to say there had been a mistake and they'd double-booked for that time slot. And then had the sheer audacity to tell me the next available one was 3 months away. They were completely unwilling to make right on their own mistake and refused to book me any earlier, even as I kept reiterating that I had already been waiting 6. Whole. Months. When I actually got there, the specialist refused to take a bloodwork sample, citing the hospital's policies, and would not address my most pertinent concerns that directly impacted my quality of life. She instead chose to focus on my depression as the culprit, which only came about after the onset of my physical symptoms as a direct result of my worry for myself, not the other way around. Her rationale for not taking a bloodwork sample was that I was menstruating, so therefore I must be healthy. I asked her if the only criteria to determine whether a woman is healthy or not is if she's menstruating, and her literal word for word answer was "Yeah, pretty much." This was after I had clearly stated that my periods were irregular and I was having menopause symptoms at age 32. She didn't elaborate beyond that, so I left with more questions than I arrived with. I had zero problems getting an endocrinologist at Providence Hospital to take me seriously, run a whole panel of blood tests, and actually ask me questions about my medical history, my habits, diet, exercise, mental health, etc. When I received my medical records from GW in the mail some months later, some of the most important symptoms that I reported to the nurse weren't even documented. This was some Victorian era medicine-level care and I was essentially diagnosed with female hysteria. If you're on Medicaid, you may want to consider going elsewhere. I've heard about other people on Medicaid who've complained about sub-par treatment here.
Scheduler incorrectly inputted my insurance when I booked my appointment for Infectious Disease specialist. I was referred by the emergency room to followup ASAP with a specialist. They said everything was good so I drive an hour in rush hour traffic from Maryland, park and pay 10$ in a parking deck, haul my 16 month old toddler in a stroller, navigate through their maze of a building, and check in only for them to say my insurance was out of network...and no option to self pay being a Medicaid patient...I'm pregnant with a undiagnosed 4 week long fever and now have to wait until November to see a different infectious disease specialist. Hope I make it that long. Severely ddisappointed.
After moving to the DMV in July and doing some research, I established with GW and continue to be impressed, especially considering the medical facilities I had in New Mexico. Got in quickly, got scheduled for several referrals again quickly, get lots of communication from my providers and the one billing mistake I had got fixed after a single call. I love this place and these providers.
I did not receive notice my doctor was retiring until my pharmacy called to indicate they could no longer fill my prescriptions apparently they sent a letter in the mail i didn't receive. When I called to see if another physician could fill the basic but important prescription, the answer was no and when I asked why not, the person helping me hung up. Terrible patient service and willful lack of accountability.
I have never received worse care. Neglectful, irresponsible, unprofessional on every level. I would rate it lower if possible. They ignore emails and it’s impossible to send a voicemail or speak with someone. Staff doesn’t communicate, I’ve gone over a week without a medication because staff didn’t inform doctor of prescription refill. They closed the headache center without notifying me I would need to look for medical care elsewhere - for a chronic condition.
The place is a scam and a rip-off. Went there for a routine visit which insurance covers 100% but was charged for establishing care which has a high deductible. Plus the code was likely wrong as the Dr. didn’t provide the services listed for said code. In addition, I was already an established patient and all of my data was already in their computer. I was asked if the information was still up-to-date, I nodded, and that was it. Frustratingly, they cannot be reached by phone. I have to literally go there to be able to communicate. No one picks up the phone ever. I have already spoken with Ms Courtney Cutright from patient experience who sends lots of messages that make no logical sense. She apologized for that once I caught her on the phone, saying she’s just in the middle and doesn’t really know what she’s doing, it sounded. She then relaid per email that the department head said since I showed up for the appointment, I would have to pay. The department head didn’t even acknowledge any of the arguments I made, for example having made an appointment for a routine visit but being billed for something else and the latter not even correctly. It is problematic having a Ms Cutright in the middle of the communication stream when she doesn’t even know what she is talking about. If her communication was admittedly flawed towards me, how correct can it have been going towards the department head? Btw., I was charged for “establishing care” — if they think I will ever go there again, they are very mistaken. But I don’t think they even care.
I honestly regret coming here to get a foot issue resolved. It took four yes, four appointments to get an MRI after they were cancelled or rescheduled on me with no notice, the billing department refused to amend a billing code issue that my insurance backed me up on, and every appointment was so rushed, the issue at hand was completely ignored. I went to another doctor for a second opinion, and not only was I given more attention in one appointment than I was in the several I had here, he retook my xrays to find out I had a broken bone that needed removal. And yet here, despite overpaying for both an xray and MRI, this issue was missed. I was only told my first xray was "fine". I spent months in pain that I didn't need to be in, if only this practice gets its act together, and also overhauls a billing department that priced me out of timely treatment needlessly. There is only one star here because I am not allowed to put zero.
If I could award zero stars, I would. After receiving numerous emails and texts about my appointment and confirming from my end, my appointment was cancelled at 7:32am for a 7:45am check in today. I was on the elevator headed up to the office when I got the call cancelling my appointment. I went to discuss this matter with the check in staff, but they weren't even aware my PCP had cancelled and was not coming in! I had to actually inform them which they then confirmed!!! Life happens and I understand appointments need to be cancelled occasionally, but more notice is definitely required. I work, so rescheduling it for 1pm as they offered was not possible. Trust the reviews and look elsewhere for care if possible. Par for the course re the abysmal customer service in DC generally.
