Georgie's Ceramic & Clay

About

Friendly people who love clay and love sharing what they do with it: that's what Georgies is all about. Plus tools, glazes, clays, brushes, equipment, classes and firing services. Family-owned since 1965.

Story

Family owned, local, and love serving our ceramic and art community. Curious where we came from and how we were started?

Georgie's was established in 1965 under the name "Irene's Objets d'Art" by Seller Jacobson, Georgie's father. Georgie purchased the company in 1975 from her father and renamed it "Georgie's Plaster Shoppe".

Plastercraft eventually faded, and Georgie's entered the field of ceramics in 1980. Hence, the name "Georgie's Ceramic and Clay Co." During the early 80's, Georgies' 3 kids graduated from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!!) and rejoined the family business.

Sadly, Georgie passed away in 1985 at the early age of 48, after a decade-long battle with cancer. She died with the hope that her children would continue the company and follow her ideals of providing good service and a fun atmosphere for both employees and customers.
And let me tell you - that's just what they've done.

Georgie's ideals live on as Dick & Linda (current co-owners) have continued to grow this business. As third generation, these two are a very large part of why we are successful here in Portland. We also have the most amazing employees who put their heart and soul into their job. And lastly (or should we say the most important piece) we have the most outstanding and creative customers. Thank you for supporting our local, family owned business!

We look forward to serving you throughout years to come :)

This place is great. When the front suspension gave out on my car, I managed to limp the vehicle into their parking. Not only was I able to leave the car there for several hours without getting towed, they let me fix it on site. 2 struts, $400, a hour of work and I was back on the road. I'm not really sure what they sell, but the parking lot and store looked clean and the staff here were super friendly. Thank you.
Seems like a huge selection I'm pretty new to the hobby though. Very friendly and helpful. One star is off just because it isn't known for great prices but if you can't order online for a better deal, it's your spot.
I'm in love with Georgie's! Here's why: •Old-school friendly customer service by staff who not only wants to help, but is happy to do so. •Tools & stamps are all neatly organized & the space is big & bright. •All prices are extremely reasonable & comparable to online retailers. •Firing service is easy, has quick turn-around, & was less expensive than I anticipated. •The clay! Timberline might be my newest fave! So plastic, so fresh, doesn't even think about cracking. Directions getting here are a bit wonky via GPS, as it tells you to "turn onto 8th Ave," but... 8th Ave is little more than a driveway on both sides of Lombard, so you can pass right by if looking for an actual street. There are also 2 buildings for Georgie's & it's easy to pull into the clay warehouse lot instead of retail.
The place is great and the staff is wonderful but they need to be open on Saturdays. Portland traffic has gone insane and if you don't live close to them it's difficult to get to Georgie's on the weekday. I hope they reconsider and bring back Saturdays. Maybe be a Tues-Sat store vs. Mon-Friday?
Great place to go for all things pottery related. It seems like most of the amaco supply issues have cleared up as well. They've rarely had issues accommodating my shopping needs but if they do they have always told me when I can expect the items to be ready for pick up.
Georige's is fantastic! Super informative staff that that is interested in what you are doing and very helpful with professional advice. They have been a mentor to my wife and me and is our go to place to purchase clay and glaze.
Georgies is fantastic! Molly was very attentive, kind, and helpful with my purchase. Couldn’t be more satisfied with my experience!
I’ve been shopping at Georgie’s for about ten years now. Their staff is helpful, knowledgeable and friendly and they carry everything I need for my pottery hobby. Thanks, Georgie’s!
This place is amazing! The knowledgeable staff were friendly and very helpful to help me get what I needed *quickly* on my first visit when I only had a half an hour to look around. The man that helped me had exactly the correct info for all my questions as well. He also informed me of the 20% discount on some of my items because I'm a student! Perfect customer service. If you like pottery and work with clay you'll love it too! Huge selection of everything. Can't wait to go back! Thank you Georgies!
One stop shop for all ceramics needs, friendly and knowledgeable staff. 100% recommend.
