Fantastic German bar serving cold bocks and dunkels on tap. Their fish and chips hit the mark with a crisp exterior over flaky white meat. I’m picky about coleslaw, but they nailed it with the right sweetness in a vinegar base. The service I received was excellent. The bartender was courteous and helpful a rarity these days, and my waitress Tiffany was warm and attentive. Well done. The space filled up about 6:00, but they kept the service moving and always had space to accommodate those who came through the door.
I struck out HARD with Gluek's. I won't even try coming back. Bars are not my thing, so I'm biased, but friends chose the spot. Sat down and it took a long time just to get the waiter back to take my order... he was pretty occupied with the tables up front. Not sure if he was just one of the two people working on tables or what. After what felt like 15 minutes of trying to make eye contact and waving him down, I finally make my order. Food came in REALLY fast. I ordered the schnitzel and it was TERRIBLY bland sand dry. The white sauce was watered down and was not like a gravy at all. What I thought were noodles were grainy like they were precooked and rewarmed. I was really looking forward to revisiting German cuisine... I should have gone for the currywurst. I did try one of my friend's mac and cheese. Similarly bland. Very chewy, strangely enough. Not creamy or cheesy at all. The atmosphere was too loud. I'd like to think that I'm not getting to the point of being old and crotchety, but I hated it. There was a line band that took more than an hour to warm up and do sound checks, and even then, it was way too loud, distorted, with frequent interference with mics. Only good thing about the hand was their energy and enthusiasm. To top all of this off, I found what looked like a spider in my beer. A live, squirming one. Not sure if it was there the word time or if it landed in my drink, but that was enough for me. Gross. At least he was having a good time. I must have had the worst luck. But I hated my visit here.
Very authentic bar. You walk in and immediately smell the potato salad and schnitzel. The bar tender fit the bill. There's a good selection of beers perfect for washing down the flavorful food. It's not much a brewery though, as they don't brew any of their own beers. I had beer cheese soup with popcorn that was a great appetizer to warm up on a cold day. I followed it up with the jalapeno, cream cheese brautworst topped with sauerkraut and grilled onions and German potato salad. The brautworst is one of the best I've had. The potato salad was a bit too vinegary, but still good. My wife had the pork schnitzel sandwich with kettle chips and a side of garlic aioli and was very pleased with it. Overall, great place for some authentic tasting food.
When we arrived, it was not clear if we seat ourselves or need to wait to be seated. There was no sign and no one to greet us. Apparently, one seats oneself. It took a while for someone to come grab our order, but otherwise the service was fine. The food was ok, not terrible but nothing exceptional. We had the Schweineschnitzel & Spatzel, as well as the mac and cheese. The schnitzel was a bit dry, and the spatzel was a bit bland. I’ve had spatzel many times, and I find it helps to have some strong-flavored cheese or butter on it, which I did not detect. The mac and cheese was decent. There was live music playing, and while it was fun, it was extremely loud we could hardly converse.
Great location and fun, beer hall atmosphere. A sure way to satisfy a German food craving. Check out my full review on Instagram! @lets.try.thatDine in: YesDelivery: No
Stopped by Glueks for some beer and appetizers before the Twins game. The service was fast and friendly and we loved the decor. The beer was ice cold and the giant pretzel and fried walleye was the perfect appetizer before heading to the baseball game.
Nice, old German pub with lots of history. Wide selection of Glueck's beer and other brews from Minnesota and the world. Front street-side seating along with a back beer garden. Friendly service and reasonable prices.
Environment is ok, looks nice, the burger was ok, I will really go back for the beers they look delicious
Fantastic atmosphere, and even better food! Get one of the Bavarian pretzels! You won't regret it! I'll be back just for the pretzels alone! Parking: Parking next to the building, but space is limited!
Love this place. Big part of Minneapolis history. Great food, excellent drinks, really unique atmosphere. Check it out.
