My wife and I took a long break from jiu jitsu during the pandemic and also had a baby. Went back for my first official class this week and they welcomed me back with open arms. Lots of new people and some familiar faces still. Glad to be back home, no other place I’d train. We live in NE Portland and drive to Troutdale to train.
Stopped in to throw Gracie a bone after a quick flight to Guam. They throw down in top notch style here. The “planks soup” threw me for a whirl at first, but I still managed to out kast most of the southern WA crowd! Must have been the Columbia River Salmon I had for dinner the night before Fight on Portland and stay safe!
As a female in Jiu-Jitsu, I cannot express enough how incredibly fortunate I am to have found this gym! My reservations as a female practitioner quickly faded here, and I have been inspired to push myself beyond my limits. This gym is an exceptional place for any woman looking to excel in Jiu-Jitsu, and I am proud to be a part of this remarkable community!
It has exceeded all of my expectations. My kid and I have been coming here for over a month and the environment is welcoming and friendly, especially the coaches who are very eager to answer questions, teach, and work with everyone. The type of fitness it requires has been very humbling for me because it’s unlike any kind of training I’ve ever done. The prices are lower than most other BJJ academies but the biggest thing I’d have to say is the encouragement and positive reinforcement from the other members. Whether they’re extremely experienced or just starting off, they make it an environment I feel like I can thrive in and grow. Update: my son has now been attending here for 16 months. He loves it, he has progressed so well and gained confidence both in and outside of class. All the coaches are great but I need to mention Coach Shelby: she truly has a gift with the kids. Her attentiveness, care, sense of humor, and discipline is a joy to watch as a parent. You’d think with 20 kids of varying backgrounds, skill levels and ages, all wrestling around would be a nightmare but she handles it like a pro and the kids are squared up, actively listening and on task. The kids class is awesome. My kid loves it and so do I. The coach's are wonderful and really take the time to make sure the kids are getting the technics down. The kids are so proud of themselves when the earn a new strip, mine can't stop talking about it for days. Thank you coach Nicole for telling us about it.
I'm so grateful for this place! I was skeptical to try jiu jitsu at first, but was drawn to the welcoming and positive vibe of the instructors and other gym members. The community here is unmatched as well as the knowledge shared. I've learned skills and challenged myself in ways I never thought possible because of this place. I'm so happy to be back after taking a couple years off since the pandemic and having a baby!
I definitely recommend checking out Gracie Technics whether you're just starting out or coming over from a different gym. Coach James and Josh bring a great atmosphere for both casual and competitive gym goers. These guys have really helped bring my game to a new level!
Amazing teachers! I almost instantly felt like I had been part of the community forever! I've been training for 2.5 years and learned a LOT. Highly recommended.
Awesome place for Bjj! The instructors and regulars are very nice and welcoming. It is very easy to fit in and get started. I went here for a few months a couple years ago. I had to stop for various reasons and when I wanted to start again I lived too far away to justify going. However I highly recommend this place for anyone!
