I bought a used Luxman TT with a great tonearm on it and purchased a Grado Gold 3 for the system. Once installed, I had what appeared to be a tracking problem that caused one channel or the other to fade or cut out. I talked with John at Grado and he asked a couple questions, we tried an experiment, and he said "we're gonna send you something". A few days later I got another Gold 3, free, in the mail. But, it turned out the problem was hiding in the phono preamp section of my vintage Lux preamp. I bought an outboard phono preamp and voila, problem solved. The Gold 3 sounds glorious. Simple as that. So, I called Grado back in Brooklyn and offered to send back the very nice quite expensive cartridge and John said: "keep it, we're nice people here, put it to good use." I will. With thanks. Music is life. Butter aka Greg
I went to the 7 ave office about 15/20 years ago to inquire about getting sr60 headphones due to the country wide shortage. The secretary and John Grado were nothing less then super friendly and accommodating. Class act on every level.
I have been using these headphones for four years and love them for their amazing sound and affordable price. I first bought these headphones in High School because I wanted to have good quality headphones for listening to music while studying and, I have been using them ever since. The headphones provide warm soothing bass at low register and clear tones at high registers and its open back design provides the listener with a 360-degree surround sound experience while allowing the listener to hear his/her surroundings. My main criticism is that since the company invests most of its money into making the best drivers possible, the build quality of the headphones is put on the back burner. After one year use, I had to get the headphones fixed because the headband and wires became damaged from wear and tear. If Grado Labs were to increase the price of these headphones by ten dollars to use higher quality materials, then these would be the best headphones on the market. Since Grado Labs does not spend money on advertising and relies solely on the word of mouth of its customers, I believe that increasing the build quality would be beneficial because more people will want to recommend these headphones which will lead to more sales. I would recommend these headphones to anyone that wants to buy their first pair of High-Fidelity headphones but don’t want to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on other brands.
I just keep coming back for more of these guys headphones. The drivers even in the lower priced range are absolutely phenominal. It's mad, i'm actually hearing new sounds in tunes ive listened to for years! Also feels refreshing having supported a real family business for all these years. Highly recommended.
Top notch product and service. Firstly and most importantly their styli and open back headphones can't be beat. Made from quality materials and craftsmanship they stand behind. I recently dropped my GS1000 headphones off for servicing at their no frills Brooklyn HQ after 6 years of use and for $150 they brought them back to life. They also turned the work around in days and shipped back to me with 0 issues. They are the real deal. Thanks for the years of great listening!
I am thoroughly pleased with both the price and performance of my American-made, Grado SR80e headphones. The midrange was a bit too forward for the first few weeks but this smoothed out after they broke in. I directly compared these headphones to Sennheisers that cost twice as much and liked the Grado’s sound twice as much.
Fantastic service! A piece broke on my SR80e after years of use and after sending a simple email by Friday the replacement part arrived by Monday free of charge. Thank you!
As a an avid audiophile I own a couple of pairs of grado's RS1's, and 325's, I didn't realize the factory was here in Brooklyn until a couple of years ago. The service has been phenomenal getting replacement partspads, tips, etc and getting my bad boys serviced. Super quick turn around and friendly staff. Amazing headphones and amazing service you can't loose...
Great American-made product. BUT, I had one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. I bought their headphone amp along with the GH1 special edition headphones. The headphone amp arrived broken. They had me send it back to them. Then, they returned it to me even more broken. It took them a quarter of a year to get me a working unit. For some reason, even though I kept telling them that I had bought the unit new and it came broken and they acknowledged that fact, they kept trying to repair it rather than give me a brand new working unit. Finally, they relented after the retailer intervened and contacted the owner Mr. Grado himself. I hope he fixes this operationally so it doesn't happen to other customers because it was shameful. They never ever offered me any kind of discount or anything either.
Bought there cardridge the grado reference platinum 2 wood. Unbelievable it run over a Sumiko blue point special evo iii with eas, strait out of the box. Only the vta is very sensitive ones found the right arm hight the sonic headroom comes to life. Never heard a so open soundstage. I bet I'm going to try there headphones. 10 stars
