For the last 4+ years the doctors at Grain have been my primary care physicians. I have always received thoughtful, dedicated and personalized care. I feel so grateful to have found this team of knowledgeable docs that are so passionate and committed to helping their patients.
I've been through the ringer in the medical industrial complex for four decades and had given up many times over, figuring that it was easier to suffer in peace than to attempt to explain my problems to yet another person with a medical degree who would tell me that there was nothing they could do for me. But through a referral from a specialist, I ended up in the waiting room at Grain. She insisted that I give it a try. After my previous experiences, all I had to lose were a few more hours of my life. The doctors at Grain are smartest that I've ever encountered anywhere. And this isn't in isolation either; I see multiple doctors for multiple problems and each of them have core strengths and competencies which are fully utilized to masterful effect because of how effectively Grain is managed. Beside manner is also a consideration. Doctors are friendly and thoughtful about what and how they are communicating. They are perceptive; picking up on microcommunications and able to hear concerns and feedback. My doctors have also effectively advocated for me when I've had to have appointments with specialists offsite. Becoming a patient at Grain has effectively flipped my narrative on my experience in the Medical Industrial Complex and I couldn't be happier.
I have seen multiple providers at this location, they are a very professional, compassionate group. The office staff is very kind and helpful as well! It also helps they accept my insurance! My health needs were met at every visit and I really felt like I was listened to. Would highly recommend this clinic if you’re looking for a new provider!
If you want to be ignored and mistreated, see any doctor here. All of my experiences here have been bad. I've been going here since 2017 and have been passed around to 4 different doctors. The most recent one being Dana Mockenhaupt, who is one of the worst I've seen. Not only did she completely ignore my requests to get specific imaging, when I finally went to the ER and got the RIGHT imaging done, she didn't follow up with me for weeks. The results are very concerning to me, yet all my emails were ignored. I got one voicemail but I had told them I wanted email communications only. Not only is Dana Mockenhaupt fake and inauthentic, she lacks compassion for people who have past physical trauma, and seems inexperienced. She told me I could trust her and that she understood my C-PTSD from medical scares and mistreatment, and then went on to abandon me in my time of need. She refused to prescribe me medications that I know help, and instead made me try an SNRI that I've ever had before. I had a really bad reaction and she refused to acknowledge her mistake or rectify the situation in any way. She also seems to have zero experience with endometriosis, even though it's very common. She had the audacity to tell me that my chronic pain isn't caused by endometriosis, even though I know it is. She refused to also acknowledge the mind/body connection, when I told her I felt my past trauma had negatively impacted my health. As far as I'm concerned this entire practice should be closed. It's no wonder that two of my past doctors from there, and my acupuncturist, all left Grain. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else but here. They are rude, pretentious, condescending, belittling, and the stress from your experiences will just make your health even worse.
I saw Dr. Kates-Chinoy twice, and each time was "prescribed" $150-200 worth of supplements. She did not discuss the costs with me until I was presented my bill at the front desk. I did not feel that she genuinely wanted to understand my health concerns, but that she simply wanted to give me supplements that related to my presenting problems. For example: She gave me supplements for my irregular periods and told me that my hormones needed to be "reset." I saw a gynecologist after that, who told me that irregular periods were TOTALLY NORMAL for the birth control I'm on and nothing to worry about. I honestly left with the impression that Grain Integrative Health is a scam that pushes expensive supplements on patients.
Wasn’t the worst care I’d ever received. That said, they seemed more keen to just treat symptoms rather than finding the cause. Said symptoms were treated with mostly overpriced supplements that you had to buy directly from them, with no affordable/accessible alternatives and not covered by insurance.
This is the best group of doctors I have ever worked with. Compassionate, caring, and great at trying to understand and fix the root of my stomach IBS issues. I am in the best health I've ever been in thanks to them and feel great. Acupuncture by Chris is also phenomenal and has helped me for many different issues.
Oh my goodness, I can’t say enough wonderful things about this practice. I met Dr. Baum, by chance one day when she called the location I was currently working at. She had a question and through conversation I learned that this lovely woman had a natural pathic practice on 42nd and Belmont. This was my old neighborhood and the name green resonated with me for many reasons. A week later I had a car accident and had The contact information for bringing in my phone. I believe it was synchronicity and meant to be. They have taken excellent care of me from the very beginning till current. My personal doctor is Dr. Benson. Between them they are the most amazing doctors I’ve ever had the opportunity to sit with. And I mean sit sometimes. They really give me a great amount of time, their note taking is fantastic and they are very very thorough with everything that they do. Every time I walk out their door I have a printed list of everything that we’ve discussed and every suggestion they have made for me. I love the natural pathic approach and the supplements that they have suggested have really benefited my health. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone. Their front desk staff, Suki and Miss Camille, are two fantastic women who really really care about you. I see this entire staff as a team that cares about every single person who walks in the door. Your voice matters to them. They are great listeners and they are there for the right reasons – it’s all about you!
Friendly and welcoming, but with psuedoscience in the mix. My assigned naturopath there recommended an "intolerance test" and predicted that I would be potato intolerant because "analytical-types usually are". That struck me as odd, but I was thrilled to learn that an intolerance test existed that she claimed was "very accurate and conclusive". So I paid $150 for this test, which supposedly came back as 'potato intolerant'. I enthusiastically started on the new diet and my gut let me know it was not accurate. After some research, I learned that this test is not legitimate and that no reliable intolerance test exists. When I approached the naturopath with this info along with printouts she appeared to try to evade the conversation and finally said "OK, the test is BS. But it helps some people." I'm shocked and feel it necessary to warn people. I paid $150 for a test that was later called "B.S." by the very naturopath who sold me the test. I also paid several hundred dollars on top of that for 3 office visits. I was not offered a refund. I recommend that people see a real medical doctor or Gastroenterologist for help with gut health issues. I really wanted to love Grain Integrative Health and I wanted to believe they had the solution for me, but sadly it turned out to be a center for pseudoscience, with perhaps some real science mixed in. They took a lot of my money and left me with the same problems and feeling more discouraged than when I walked in. But now, thanks to a Kaiser Gastroenterologist, I'm on my way to finally figuring out my gut. Update: after posting this review I was offered a refund for the cost of the test. I'm still baffled as to why they would sell a test that they know is "B.S.".
Dr. Hoagland was extremely thorough and addressed all of my questions/concerns. I could tell he was actively listening and truly cared about my wellbeing. I really appreciate providers that practice shared decision making and it was clear that this was ingrained in Dr. Hoagland. The front office was also great and scheduling was a breeze. Easy 5-Star rating!
