My wife and I visited mainly because we were interested in the history of the tavern, particularly the literary history. There are some cool pictures and paintings and other related items to do with the poet Dylan Thomas but I was disappointed not to see anything to do with some of the other writers that I've read about - I know Dylan Thomas is probably the most famous though! We ordered nachos and I enjoyed it but my wife became quite ill afterwards. Our servers seemed very busy and in a rush so there wasn't a personal touch or a chance to have a conversation or anything. I'd come back but definitely on a quieter day. To stand at the bar where writers I admire once stood was very cool indeed.
We recently visited a restaurant with a party of three, and our experience left a bitter aftertaste. Upon arrival, the host and her assistant denied us a table on the sidewalk because third person can't be seated on the sidewalk and instead offered us seating in an outdoor-indoor structure. We accepted the offer, but 10 minutes later, we noticed the same table given to another party of three, with one person seated on the sidewalk side. This made us feel uncomfortable and possibly profiled. We are white folks, professionals, who were just looking for some outdoor seating. When I brought this issue to the attention of the host, she responded that it was her boss who was seating on that sidewalk. I was taken aback, as I wasn't aware that the boss was exempt from city regulations as we were told about. While I understand that businesses have their own policies, it's disheartening to witness apparent inconsistencies and potential bias in seating arrangements. Such experiences can greatly affect a customer's perception and overall satisfaction. I hope that the restaurant can address this matter and ensure fair and respectful treatment for all patrons.
I did not enter to eat, but as I spent the end of 2023 chasing ghosts and spirits, I wanted to share one last toast with Dylan Thomas. I did, and it was a serene moment. The tavern is intimate, warm, and enveloping. The staff was friendly and welcoming without being maudlin. It was a surreal moment bathing in the aura of..."not going gentle into that good night."
Nice bar with large choice of appetizers. We ordered shrimps and shishito peppers. Everything was great but little bit expensive. Also service might be more attentive.Food: 5/5
You feel the energy of the room when you walk in. History here. The drinks were outstanding, service was stellar and the Gouda beer cheese was amazing with the soft Pretzels. Will be back!Food: 5/5
I booked the outdoor seating in Dec and can’t say it was the best choice. Went thinking there’d be Christmas decor but none. We were sat at the very point of the servers’ entrance so they had to frequently squeeze past our table it’s a narrow space & that was rather uncomfortable. There was also no music outside. On the other hand, the indoor space looked very cosy and fun albeit crowded. Food was alright, had some pretzel bites, steak and a sandwich. Some parts of the steak was medium-medium well instead of medium rare. Cocktails were nice and strong. Good service. Totalled to $126 for 2.
The mussels and peppers appetizers were the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted.. Thanks to my excellent and adorable waitress Sophie, my visit to the White Horse Tavern today became the highlight of my week.Food: 5/5
This was one of my favorite places to eat in nyc. Great service, great food, great atmosphere in a wonderful part of the city. Go and enjoy yourself!Food: 5/5
I honestly do not know how long White Horse Tavern has been in existence, but my friend and I discovered it on Sunday, January 30, 2022. She and I went to celebrate our respective Birthdays. It was our first time, but not our last. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, the prices were reasonable, and the decor was lovely. Although reservations are recommended, it is not a requirement, but both my friend and I were most thankful we had the option of one of two tables. There is a dining limit, and one must wear face coverings when neither eating nor drinking. Also, one must be fully vaccinated for covid19, and present proof of vaccination status. I definitely look forward to returning to this wonderful restaurant, as soon as I can.
Second time here and it’s a nice place to have a drink and bites, never try their food here but next time I’ll make sure I try something. Service is okay and the atmosphere inside is cool.Service: 3/5
