In 1972, Moe and Sylvia Girouard moved from New Hampshire to Salt Lake City to be near some of the greatest skiing on earth. After a year in the Rockies, they missed those killer subs from back east and decided to bring them to Utah. In 1973, Moe and his brother Roger Girouard opened a small sub shop on State Street, across from the old South High School. After a couple of years, Roget decided to move his family back to New Hampshire, and it's been Moe & Sylvia running the shop ever since.

Moe is still the only one to make the meatballs from scratch and the spaghetti sauce is their old family recipe. All deli meats are sliced fresh daily, right down to slow cooking the roast for the roast beef sandwiches, and hand-trimming and slicing the steaks for their famous Philly steaks, cheese steaks, and pepper steaks.
