Grumpy Goat Tavern

This was my first time at the Ankeny location. We went on a Saturday night around 6 and did not have to wait. We had the fry flight. It was good. Staff were friendly but service was a little slow.

Absolutely wonderful time. Visited for brunch before heading home to Missouri. They had a one man band playing and he was absolutely delightful to listen to at brunch during a cloudy rainy Sunday over breakfast. They had a bloody Mary and mimosa bar. can't remember the prices and our waitress was very attentive to us as her customers. Food was so awesome. And it was very hard to choose which breakfast I wanted because everything on the menu sounded sooooo good. The bloody Mary was to die for. Stop in if your in town. Well worth it.

Good food. Great atmosphere. It does take a little longer to get food but it was well worth the wait. Definitely coming back. Kid-friendliness: Kid ordered the pizza burger loved it . Husband order the poper burger and LOVED it.

The food was amazing cheese cubes for a starter. I had the grinder flatbread and my wife had the pizza burger. The food was at our table very fast. The waitress was great brought us extra drinks without even asking. Highly recommend. We will definitely go back.

The staff is excellent and their food is top notch. We especially loved the hostess who gave us some history about Ankeny and invited us to check out the upper level patio bar. Will definitely be repeat customers!!

I tried to leave a review on your website and that was impossible. I’ve been to the Ankeny location previously while visiting from Sioux Falls and this was time was not a great experience. I understand service may be slow on a Sunday but it took forever. When the server was asked to wipe down our extremely sticky table she only wiped down the spot in front of the person who called it to her attention, and that wipe down was with a dirty rag. I had the meat lovers omelette which contained a few pieces of Canadian bacon, none of the other meat that was supposed to be included. When I pointed it out to our server she said, ok. Really? It’s not okay. Some training could go a long way towards having the servers handle more than 1 task at a time. Greet a new table while taking orders at another. Clear off tables when walking to the kitchen to place an order. I felt the quality of food and service was not a $25 meal.

Solid bar & grill with a fairly large & diverse menu. Generally, the food is pretty good. Recently edited/changed my review from 4-stars to 3-stars. The last few times I've been in, they have seemed short-staffed and I can't remember the last time I saw the upstairs outdoor patio open I assume due to staff shortages. In fact, the last time I was here, I sat at a table for about 15 minutes surrounded by other tables with dirty/uncleared dishes, and never saw any staff. Eventually just walked out and went somewhere else. I'll give them another try down the road, but I hope they get their stuff figured out, as it is a nice building & location.

Foo;D was excellent!! Wait staff was a little lax. Busy doing side work & eating. Hey, everybody's gotta eat! Just wait until you're cut or don't have customers at the bar. Benefit of the doubt, it's a Tuesday and they weren't very busy. Overall, great experience & we will be back!

My husband is a big fan of their taco pizza. It’s been over a year since we’ve been back to the grumpy goat, and it wasn’t as busy as we remember. My craft cocktail was delicious, the pizza was exactly what we expected, and overall it was a good experience. We were thankful that our waitress warned us at their pizzas take a long time. Otherwise I think we would’ve been disappointed with a 35 minute wait.

Came around 3 with no one in the restaurant besides my friend and I. Workers were sitting and chatting not too far away and kept glancing when we clearly needed something. When I rose my hand, and nearly shouted that I needed silverware to cut my sandwich because me and my friend were sharing it, he then came over and gave us just a fork! Server did not check on how our food was tasting, and didn’t check on us for 10 min. On top of that the waffle fries could have been cooked more, they were cold and hard. I was a server for 4 years, and service could have been so much better.
