Amazing views and so sad to leave. We needed more space when our son was born. We lived for a year on the 8th floor. It was clean, spacious and beautiful. The staff were super nice too. Loved everything about this place.
After living here for five years I highly recommend Harborside for anyone looking to rent on the lower east side. The value is great for any size unit, the views are good to great, and both management and maintenance are probably the best I will ever have. Just a couple of things to consider... The building is aging, and units will have a variety of aged appliances and cabinetry. The windows are great, however there is a fair amount of ambient noise and light at night from the surrounding area. The walls are not paper-thin, but you will hear your neighbors and hallway about on average with other buildings. At the same time the built-in A/C worked beautifully, the radiant heat worked too well, the hot water was highly reliable, absolutely no pest issues, and the building was wired for AT&T fiber internet. There is a good balance of updates and maintenance to the building with keeping annual rent increases to a minimum. That being said, it is not amenity rich... there is ample amount of on-site laundry, street level and underground garage parking, a community patio on the first floor, and packages would often times be delivered to unit doors. The location is still very close to pretty much anything you would need. Bottom line is Harborside is one of the if not the best value apartment complex on Milwaukee's east side.
I have worked with Harborside for over 4 years, and the entire staff is top notch. The property manager is always welcoming, and the views of Lake Michigan are fantastic!
I lived at Harborside for one year. I thoroughly enjoyed my time. I lived in the smallest unit in the whole place, a ~400 square foot studio apartment, and I still loved it. I provide some pros and cons about my time. Pros: 1 The management team is incredibly nice and very friendly. If I ever had a maintenance problem they had someone there that day. 2 You simply cannot beat the view. I had a north facing window, but all the windows are bay windows so they extrude out. My view of the lake from the 8th floor was exquisite. 3 It is incredibly clean. The building just looks nice and fancy, despite being quite affordable. 4 They bring your packages up to your room for you and leave them by your door. It's a small thing, but I always like it. 5 It's very close to the bars on Brady street, and on the major bus lines if you go to school at Marquette or UWM. It is also right next to the Veterans park, and not far from Bradford beach. Cons: 1 IF YOU LIVE IN A STUDIO: a the kitchen is very small, and b basically 1 side of the apartment is all glass, so the temperature can change in the room quite drastically. I cannot speak to living in other units, though I would assume both these would not be as big of problems. 2 Not so much about the building, but a con of living downtown, my car was broken into while parked underneath the building. However, since that incident, Harborside has hired a nighttime guard and will be installing gates. So, if you're moving in after this post, that probably will not be as big of a concern. Conclusion: I would live here again. It is affordable and in a decent location. The staff is friendly, and the view is unbeatable.
I have lived in Milwaukee for 12 years and this is by far the best apartment I have ever lived in! Margaret and Dennis are excellent managers. They are always available if I need anything, are really friendly, and make me feel safe and welcome in the building. Whenever I have needed a maintenance request they have fixed it immediately and I never feel like a burden if I need something. They are really good at communicating to the building about things to make every tenant's life easier - whether it is a reminder or information about repairs etc. The layouts of the apartments are perfect too - they are really spacious and well kept and have beautiful views of the Lakefront. It is in a perfect location too - close enough to the action of the city, while far enough away from the noise. It is within walking distance to the main parts of both Downtown and the East Side. I love how homey Margaret and Dennis make the building too from Holiday decorations to even a wave or a hello every morning. I would highly recommend this building to young professionals who want an affordable apartment. It is the best bang for your buck in the city by far.
My now husband and I lived at Harborside apartments for about 5 years while we finished grad school and started our careers. It was an absolutely wonderful place to live. The staff, especially Margaret the manager and Dennis, are absolutely delightful. They are both incredibly professional and kind and while living there we became good friends with them and our other neighbors. It has a great sense of community and although some anemnities could use updating older cabinets and appliances, all perfectly functional, Harborside is affordable and well worth the rent for the neighborhood. The only reason we left was because we bought a house. There are many times I still miss living at Harborside, the wonderful people and the wonderful neighborhood. I would recommend highly to anyone looking for affordable and comfortable lower eastside living.
Harborside is a nice, clean building with exquisite views. It is clear the building owner cares about this building. Unfortunately, Margaret is not a nice manager. On the Harborside application on number 3, you have to prove you make three times the rent amount OR prove you are capable of paying most of your income in rent with no problems for one year. I didn't make the three times the amount, but gave her proof that I am very much capable of paying most of my income in rent for a year by providing letters and phone numbers from my employer and Landlord. Come to find out, my application was outright denied because I didn't make the three times the rent amount. Not only that, I found out she didn't contact my employer, my roommate or my landlord to validate my character. I wouldn't have wasted Margaret's time, if the provision for number 3 on the Harborside application did not state proving capability of paying most of your income in rent for a year. What is upsetting is that she tells me to come back when I have a full-time job. As a student, just to live in this building, I most burn myself out with a full-time job? Where's the logic in that? Regardless, if making three times the rent amount is absolute, then the provision for number 3 should not be there at all. I felt I was misled and deceived. A couple weeks later, I asked my employer for additional hours it still didn't make it full time however and left a letter behind for Margaret to read. A few days later, I call first regarding a studio that was up for rent and to ask if she received the letter. She accused me of harassment even though I have not spoken to her in at least two weeks. Also, I was told I still do not make enough money to live there. Bottomline, if you don't make three times the rent amount here or above, do not waste your time applying here. Margaret seems to only see prospective tenants as dollar signs and I'm not interested in living in a place with a money hungry manager who is not understanding. It's sad to say this due to the fact that this building is the cleanest and most elegant in the city in my opinion.
Love it here at Harborside! Our view is absolutely enchanting, lots of sunlight even in the winter, and we get fireworks frequently April thru October. Parking is convenient. Maintenance is speedy and efficient. Everyone is friendly. I'm so glad we chose to live here.
The elevators break all the time, there are 12 floors in the building, good luck taking stairs. They cut the heat even when it’s 40 degrees outside, so good luck with the winter. I cannot wait to get out of here.
I lived at Harborside for years and loved it. The staff was amazing. They were always kind, flexible, and efficient. You also can't beat the views and location. I highly recommend Harborside.
