First opened in 1959, Heʻeia Elementary School is located on the fringes of Kaneohe’s growing business community and is set against the magnificent Koʻolau Mountains.
Our student population is predominantly Part Hawaiian, Caucasian, and Japanese. Our students come from low to upper-middle income homes. Families live in single family homes, townhouses, low rise apartment complexes, and a high rise apartment complex.
We draw from an area where the sense of family and community is strong. Grandchildren and children of former Heʻeia students attend the school. Alumnae have returned to work at the school. Most staff lives in Kāneʻohe or on the Windward side. Our facilities are heavily used by youth sports and community organizations.
Our school receives strong support from an active Parent Teacher Association and School Community Council. Our parent leaders are involved in Castle Complex parent leadership groups.
The school is currently working on upgrades in technology to assure an increase in student engagement and achievement. All classrooms are taught using 21st Century technology, via interactive white boards, and grade level mobile labs/ipads for student use in grades 3-6
In 2012 the school earned recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School. School continues to work towards student growth, continuous achievement and outstanding performance goals.
