Dr. Gary Blick, serving the needs of CT/NY's LGBTQ community, as well as PLWHIV from all over the US since 1987, has reopened his practice in Stratford CT.
Dr. Gary Blick is the Founder of Health Care Advocates International and BEAT AIDS Project Zimbabwe, which he founded following successful treatment provided to an HIV-positive Zimbabwean couple that gave birth to an HIV-negative child in 2002, years before Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) became the standard of care throughout the world. As a direct result, he is the proud godfather of his HIV-negative 15-year old godson in Victoria Falls Zimbabwe, where he built a state-of-the-art HIV and general medical clinic servicing over 8600 people in Zimbabwe.
As a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) in HIV and with his knowledge and interest in HIV and its effects on the human gut microbiome, he was recently appointed to be the Chief Medical Officer of Just Thrive Probiotics.
Dr. Blick is an internationally renowned HIV/AIDS clinician, clinical researcher, lecturer and humanitarian. His career in healthcare spans the length of more than 30 years, and was inspired by national health events occurring at the time of the early 1980s as he studied at the University of Miami Medical School. Set to become a plastic surgeon, he quickly changed educational direction after personally coming out as a gay man and witnessing the tragic and heart-wrenching effects of the early AIDS epidemic on the gay/bi-sexual, Haitian, recreational drug using, and hemophiliac communities.
Now, 30 years later, Dr. Blick remains on the cutting edge of HIV/AIDS care, having provided medical treatment to over 3,500 individuals living with HIV/AIDS and to members of the LGBTQ community in CT and the New England and Tri-State areas. He has been the Principal Investigator in more than 120 clinical research trials, and has authored or co-authored more than 190 medical manuscripts and scientific presentations/abstracts regarding therapies and treatments for those with HIV/AIDS. His work has been published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, Journal of AIDS, AIDS, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Journal of the American Medical Association, Lancet, Lancet ID, Postgraduate Medicine and many other renowned peer-reviewed medical journals.
Most recently, Dr. Blick united the lower Fairfield County, Connecticut HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ communities by bringing Mid-Fairfield AIDS Project and Triangle Community Center under the same roof as the last non-profit he founded, World Health Clinicians. He has been a community and patient advocate since he began practice, was integral in winning the Connecticut approval of Medical Marijuana, has been fighting for Aid In Dying for the terminally ill since 2010, and is fighting to reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and HIV testing, previously with the social media campaign he founded in 2013, HIV Equal, and now as Co-Founder of the international HIVAdvocates.com, along with Creative Designer and Celebrity Photographer, Thomas Evans.
Dr. Blick continues to lecture locally, nationally, and internationally to physicians, scientists, clinical researchers, healthcare workers, and the public regarding HIV/AIDS care and treatment. He remains an adviser, consultant, and speaker for some the world’s most prestigious pharmaceutical companies in the HIV/AIDS field. Dr. Blick is one of the founding members of the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM) and is certified as an HIV specialist (AAHIVS). Dr. Blick is also a member of the American Medical Association, International AIDS Society, HIV Medical Association, International Association of Physicians for AIDS Care, New England Gay/Bi-sexual Men’s Health Alliance, Connecticut State Medical Society, and the Fairfield County Medical Association.
