My daughter was attending a summer camp here until I saw the condition of the pool that they had kids between the ages of 5 and 10 swimming in every day. I immediately puller her out and called the health department. The health department instructed them that no one can be in the pool unless they can see the drain. Aside from that, there was ZERO security at pickup time. The kids are turned loose to anyone that shows up to take them.
Very nice campground. Kind of noisy being so close to the road and neighborhood. The Cub Scouts enjoyed shooting BB guns and playing all around the camp site.
Camped here during January for two nights, amazing experience. First off, it's different because there aren't too many bugs. Other than a couple of house flies and some ant hills, the campsite was really nice regarding bugs. Next, the views were breath-taking, especially the Phoenix lights at night. Lastly, the rifle shooting is loads of fun, especially the feel of competing with the rest of my troop. The rifle shooting even has an open shoot every month where scouts can get the rifle shooting MB/NRA qualifications.
Great views of the valley from South Mountain. Camping is fair, there is a water spigot at all sites. Nice amphitheaters, shooting range, and pool. Only down side is camping is so close to the road, you hear cars all night.
What a timeless Scouting facility for all!! I hadn't been back to the Heard in more than 25 years, and it still has that same memorable Scouting experience. Priceless!!
Come for pow-wow, stay for the city lights. It was really fun. The kids had tons to do and were asleep by 8!
Peaceful place with lots of boyscout activities including archery and rifle range.
Great hiking, great views, close to the east valley and open to the public
What a gorgeous place! We had a blast with the scouts!
