As a kamaʻāina, I was excited to try out Hele gas station for the first time, especially with the prospect of a kamaʻāina discount. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. While they do offer a discount if you use their app, it wasn't mentioned to me at all. I had to find out about it by reading the information at the counter. Additionally, my credit card didn't allow me to pay and pump directly, so I had to go inside the store to activate the pump, which was a bit of a hassle. On the bright side, I was able to get what I needed, but overall, it wasn't the most positive experience.
Large, clean and bright location around the corner from Target. Haven't gotten gas from there but the convenience store is nice like a 7-11. They also have an air and vacuum station which is tough to find nowadays. Gas is standard pricing so I hardly get gas from there.
Pretty good gas prices. There is even a ice machine outside which is convenient for me when I am on my way to the beach. Good variety of selection inside of drinks and snacks. And has alot of selection of smokes. Alcohol has a curfew of course and mostly has your usual beer and basic wine. Not many stalls to park but people are usually in and out pretty quickly.
The store is pleasant and has a wide variety of items. However, the gas prices are the reason for the 1 star. They bait and switch you. At least 10 cents difference per gallon. When asked the manager and employees alike all say we just changed the price. I checked this statement over the course of 4 months and it didn't pan out. Even as of today this is fact. I've even checked several other Hele/ Nom Nom gas stations and they are all bait and switching you at the pump. I know 10 cents isn't all that much but it is dishonest and makes me question the quality of products they sell.
I would give this place rating a five star if only they would upkeep their receipt printer at the pump. I always have to end up walking in to see the cashier to get a printed copy. I put gas at this location every 3-4 days every week, so me saying the “always” is no exaggeration based on a few experiences.
Workers here are always friendly. During the school year the mornings can get really busy but the line goes pretty fast. They have sushi chef kind musubis here, coffee, pastries, sandwiches, a cappuccino/ hot chocolate machine and the regular mini mart kind snacks. Kama`aina reward program is offered here.
On weekends, use your Kaamaaina Card for a discount on gas. Also, your points add up and can sometimes get free stuff from it. The inside store closes at 11:00 PM, so go early if you need something from inside, other than gas. Otherwise, you'll have to go to Target down the street. Dunno if this has changed.
Stop there for juul refills. Decent gas station.
