DO NOT RENT HERE. Building is being foreclosed on and Eli Karp/Hello Living has fully abandoned the tenants. There is no super and tenants are paying out of pocket to maintain the porter service and make emergency repairs in the building. People don't even know where to send rent money. Not safe, not acceptable, never ever rent here.
Before you consider renting from Hello Living -- please have a look at this. Yes, it's a new company, with seemingly good intentions on the surface, but unfortunately, they don't pull through on their word in many cases. They've been sued by everyone they've worked with. Bankruptcy after bankruptcy. Our Building manager fired the cleaning staff on March of 2020, right as the pandemic indicated we needed more cleaning. Our building manager, Mike, fired our onsite maintenance tech to cover his own lies. This is Hello Living's first attempt to manage a rental property. Security is the number one concern here, this is followed closely by the lack of advertised amenities. Hello Living is aware of constant robberies of the building and does absolutely nothing about it. From stolen bikes to random people literally hanging out in the gym, to people stealing items from the gym, cars in the garage, etc. We've had multiple discussions with many Hello Living employees and the owner, and still, no changes Realtors Hello Living lied to our realtors, Compass, about the features of the building, planned completion dates for common spaces, building amenities, repairs, etc. Upon moving in Hello Living then blamed the Compass staff for “lying” to the tenants, when the problem was created by Hello Living's dishonest practices from the beginning. Hello Living is even withholding payment to the Compass realtors, again since April of 2019 after the Compass staff upheld their duties to find tenants. Common Areas DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE PICTURES ON THEIR SITE. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATES. If they've advertised anything, get it in writing, or just wait till they're "done" before deciding to sign. Rent includes amenities, but Hello Living just takes their time to provide any amenities, at the end of the day, costing tenants money. Tenants pay for many amenities that Hello Living just fails to deliver on. What looks like a great outdoor common space on the artist rendering is filled with cheap, lightweight furniture clearly designed for staging photos instead of use by humans. Nothing is of commercial quality. They literally bought the cheapest possible, most uncomfortable, bottom of the barrel furniture cushions, chairs, tables, and hammocks blow all over the place, nobody cleans up anything. We’ve hosted 2 parties on the balcony, and had to manually wash all the cushions, tables, etc. before use because Hello Living does not maintain the common areas. Even in the winter, nothing was picked up or moved to be protected from the snow. The decking used is not of commercial quality, they chose some sort of plastic/rubber instead of stone as every other outdoor common space uses, and their decking material attracts dust and dirt and is already falling apart. Outdoor lighting is installed poorly, and against NYC electrical code, posing a shock hazard to all tenants and guests. Repairs: Our balcony door has been broken since before we moved in, to date, including requesting help directly from the owner, still no response from Hello Living. We're 1.5+ years into our lease. Our fridge was broken for almost 9 months, resulting in many visits to the unit, and loss of hundreds of dollars of food, which Hello Living refuses to pay. The gym took over 4 months to “open”, and to the best of my knowledge, all they did was make a phone call. Due to the constant robberies, there is constantly equipment missing that takes months, if ever, to replace. I'd be embarrassed to have my name attached to this company. Lies, nested in lies, all started with the owner of the property. Terrible company. Save your money and rent from anyone else!
We have had an excellent experience with Hello Living and, specifically, Hello Lenox. We love the unit itself, which is spacious and modern, with lots of natural light and large private outdoor space. We also enjoy the common are on the 2nd floor; it’s a great place to meet other residents and host friends. The building maintenance and management staff have been incredibly responsive to any of our requests. We have had particularly positive experiences with Henry and Mike. We opted to renew our lease for a second year because we’ve been so pleased with our experience to-date.
So far, Hello Lenox has been nothing short of AMAZING. I love the beautifully designed apartment , great amenities. The staff and management have been incredibly personable and accommodating. They're always very helpful with questions and concerns. the common area on the 2nd floor is a great highlight, I love to host guests there. Most importantly I love the fact that Hello Lennox is pet friendly. My dog and I have had a great time living here so far. Overall, a great place to live I highly recommend!
I've been living at 271 for almost 1.5 years now, and after 6 years of living in Brooklyn, finally feel like I've found a place to call home. The property is beautiful. The floors are solid cement and very easy to keep clean use Murphy's Oil - a great tip by one of the architects who first showed us the unit!. The floor-to-ceiling windows that collapse to open up the MASSIVE balcony space are so unique to this property and NYC in general. It really compliments the laid back, fun, breezy Caribbean vibe you get in the neighborhood. The appliances are brand new, you can't ask for better natural light, and the units are very well insulated from sound and climate. And the elevators open directly to your apartment, so there’s no outside hallway noise there is a thick door that insulates sound from the elevators. The second floor terrace is equipped with two wood-pellet grills that are a fun time in the summer. It’s very easy/convenient to reserve the grills through the property management portal, and the space itself is a great place to meet fellow residents and socialize your puppies. a few of us meet in the mornings and evenings to let our dogs run around and share a bottle or two of wine. It's a great bonus if you're looking for a pet-friendly, social community in a quickly developing BK neighborhood. After living in 4 apartments from Williamsburg to Bushwick and finally PLG, what really made 271 feel like home was the management. Henry, the Super, is hands down the -nicest-, most positive person I've met in my time in New York/Brooklyn. He's always working to keep the grounds in perfect condition, and doubles as a concierge to suggest new/fun places to explore around the neighborhood. Catching him before work for a quick chat has always made my day, and I can't appreciate him enough. Mike M building manager and the rest of the management team are committed to giving you the best possible living here as well. They’re available at all hours and proactive about keeping your unit up to date, and genuinely care about making you feel at home. The unit is brand new, so I haven’t had any issues with appliances, but I did have a faulty circuit breaker that they sapped out within 24 hours of my report, and proactively made upgrades to our AC unit this summer. Finally, the neighborhood. There's a rich, diverse, and welcoming culture in PLG. Since we’ve lived here, there have been a number of new restaurants, coffee shops, and bars that have opened. Prospect park is a quick 10 minute walk and quick access to the B/Q and 4/5 make it a great place to be if you’re commuting to the city. If you like the Beach, Coney Island is 30-35 minutes door-to-door. If you’re looking for luxury living in a historic neighborhood, close to the park with public transportation, and a community feel, I cannot recommend 271 enough!
EDIT - the property management company literally quit, blaming Hello Living for not providing any support for renters. Attached is a photo of the notice. While it's still unclear if new management will bring any positive change, or if Hello Living is to blame here, I DO NOT recommend renting here! -- Property management has been so difficult to communicate with. You have to babysit them for anything you expected to be done before move in. I’m almost 4 months into my lease and the in unit laundry still doesn’t work.
Rent here if you want your packages stolen daily with no management accountability “it is what it is mentality”, slow to respond maintenance requests and Manhattan prices.
