HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAMS:
-The Community Clearinghouse (CCH) administers various projects throughout the year to assist low-income individuals and families with emergency needs. CCH runs the Good Neighbor Emergency Fund to assist with bus passes and past due rent and utilities, and provides material assistance free of charge through community donations. All CCH clients must be referred by a social service agency.
--->The Adopt A Family Program is offered during the holiday season to match up low-income families with generous donors that can help provide toys, a hot meal and other basic items.
--->Ready to Learn (RTL) was founded by late U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye and his late wife Maggie to make sure that students throughout Hawaii have the proper tools to start school. We continue their efforts by providing free school supplies to Hawaii's low-income and homeless children.
-The Emergency Assistance Program: assists individuals and families who need financial assistance for housing due to a sudden and unexpected emergency situation, such as a lay-off or a medical emergency. Applicants must provide proof of emergency and demonstrate self-sufficiency to qualify. Funding comes from the Good Neighbor Fund and various state and private funding sources.
-SNAP Outreach: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps, is the first line of defense against hunger in America. It helps put healthy food within reach, regardless of your budget. Helping Hands Hawai`i helps eligible families fill out applications and gather required documentation to ensure efficient processing. Funding for the program comes from the Department of Human Services.
