Pretty good buns honestly. And cheap too $2 each. Though I will say that the filling is kinda lacking and concentrated in the middle of the bun so you get inconsistent bites. Owners were friendly though. I bet the food here is gas, super authentic place.
The worst Chinese bakery I have ever been to. Bought char siu bao baked pork bun There were five very tiny, grizzled, dried up pieces of pork with no sauce. Not even close to how they should be prepared. Just adobo which I immediately threw out. Don’t waste your money
you could say I have frequent flyer miles for this bakery, as I show up probably at least 2 to 3 times a week to get their buns and egg tarts! The buns are bigger than usual bakeries and the texture of the bread is so fluffy but also full and it complements so well. all the buns that have filling like the red bean and the lemon have a very generous amount of filling that’s not overpowering and complements everything well! everything is always made fresh when I go, and the owner and staff are the kindest people I have ever met. As far as drinks go, their bubble teas are one of the few that I’ve had that is not water down and the Boba is always very fresh tasting and not too chewey or too soft. personally, I’ve been loving the Matcha shakes lately as I find it pairs perfectly with the pastries that they sell, and it makes for a very enjoyable midday snack! The pricing is very fair for the size of the buns, and the amount of filling, and overall I’ve been very pleased with this Bakery! Not to mention they’re open late which is something a lot of bakeries are and for me who works late at times it’s very convenient to be able to go and still have a chance to get the buns that I’ve grown to love
The other day i went to the bakery ordering a birthday cake. I accidentally got the wrong date, so i went in there again minutes later asking for a refund. NO REFUND! They said about punching the money in the cash register so they need to pay taxes to the IRS That was the most ridicules excuse. I also gave them cash, so it is definitely refundable. They told me to pick some breads instead. I told them that i cannot eat 28.00 dollars worth of bread and i’m from out of states, so i cannot refrigerate them. They just left me there to think about what bread i want But i want none. I asked to talk to their manager/boss but they don’t want me to speak with him. I told them that it is illegal for them to not do the refund because i didn’t receive any goods. In the end, i got 26.00 in return. 2 dollars they said was taken for taxes. SMH Do not recommend this place. This place is definitely a black store. Also check your check the change they give you at this store! I gave a lady 100, but she gave me 12 dollars back in change. I told her she gave me the wrong change, then she acted so innocent and told me no. Then i preceded to tell her that she needs to give me back 60 more, because i gave her 100. She then apologized. I hope this is an accident
When you order anything online from them make sure to listen to the price first! They are going to rob you otherwise! These people, cannot even communicate, I ordered a black forest birthday cake, there was nothing about black forest, felt like eating something with a combo of tissue paper and notebooks, also couldn't read the name on it. And they took 60 dollars for the cake, add five dollars to that with some stupid candles. I love to try out restaurants and bakery around me, never gave this kind of review before. Utterly disappointing.
Truly one of a kind! They have a great mix of new style pastries and drinks along with traditional variations as well. Buns are very fresh when I buy them and staff is always kind to me and also to my dad when he goes as he doesn’t speak much English it’s nice to have Chinese speakers he can communicate with without stress. Recommend asking for red bean buns or try one of the Mooncakes! One of only places I found open to a variety time schedule that has Mooncakes all year that always freshly made.
I have my own HK bakery place and today just want to try new one. Now I’m stick with my nice-old bakery and won’t come back again. Taste of food doesn’t worth the price, and I doubt it is clean or not, because I’ve been to toilet 2 times. If you looking for HK or Chinese bakeries I recommend MayFlower Bakery, 2 mins walker from this place. Don’t waste your time here.
2 regular milk teas with NO boba or any other special ingredients were $10.00?!?!?! And it tasted like milk with a hint of tea taste… what is wrong with this place. AS MENTIONED FROM OTHER REVIEWS STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!
Wish I had read these reviews first. Went to the Hong Kong bakery last week. Older woman seemed irritated I even walked in., I almost thought she was a customer as she sat looking at me while I waited for someone to take my order. I should have seen the red flag when the bakery case had Sara Lee, enteraminns, and candy bars in it. I ordered a couple bakery items that were extremely stale, and had a weird taste almost chemical like, I spit them out immediately and then threw them out. Place was very unkept as was the woman. It turns out the Philadelphia board of health shut the Hong Kong bakery down for violations on September 30th 2020. I don’t know how they got permission to reopen. STAY AWAY.
People please stay away from Hong Kong Bakery. I took my family for a vacation, stopped at Hong Kong bakery for mooncake. I bought 1 mooncake for my sister for $8.50 each. When I asked this guy named Ben how much for a box of mooncake? He said, 4 mooncake in a box and it cost $34.00. I ordered 2 boxes of mooncake. This man rung up and charged me $88.95, instead of $68.00. When confront him about it....he said, I had to pay 10% tax and 5% paper bag and boxes to put in my order. Please stay away from this shop. It is a scam. This man even go back to my account debt $20.00 from my bank account too. He's a thief and a con artist. If you are looking for a good fresh bakery....stop by at K.C bakery in Chinatown in Philadelphia it only a few blocks from Hong Kong Bakery.
