Hornes General Store

People are great. Food is great. The station is from the 40s so they don't have card readers so it gives as you the ole fashion way of doing things. The store is in newberry county, the boat ramp on the other side of the river is in saluda county, and every thing else is in Greenwood and Laurens county. It is a real historic town and a lot of old houses around, along with good people. It also has an old rail road track about 100 ft. in front of the ending of old main street. 95 % of the residents are descendants of Thomas Chappel ( founder ). Two of the Alamo heros lived near chappells. There is some more history on google about chappells. ( Update a Dollar General is being built in front of the general store and the post office is No longer operating ).

I live in Charleston and frequently go to Greenwood to see family. This station is the only station between Greenwood and Newberry so stop by often. They dont have card readers on the pumps so you have to go in to tell them how much gas you want. I went in and said I needed 20 gallons. The lady said, "we dont do it like that". I said if you tell me how much it is a gallon I can figure it out. She caught an atitude and refused me service. Pretty crazy. I will not be going back there for awhile. My guess is she will be fired eventually. The owners have always been nice and hope they realize they have hired a bad egg.
