I enrolled my 2 boys 5 and 7 into this Dojo in Fall 2023 after dropping out of TaeKwonDo. I must say, I am very impressed with them. They care about each and every child's progression and remembers their progress and encourages the parents to be supporters. What I am most impress about this place is, when my 5 year old tries to teach me what he learns. He would explain to me the rationale behind each moves he learns and would tell me what is incorrect and what is the correct way! I am grateful that I found this place. The staff are very personable and I trust my kids in their hands.
Refer by my friend Ken I As a devoted member of Hoteikan Dojo, I can confidently say that this martial arts center has truly been a transformative and empowering experience for me. Nestled at 7017 Fort Hamilton Pkwy, Brooklyn, NY, Hoteikan Dojo is not just a place to learn karate; it is a second home where individuals of all ages come together to foster personal growth, discipline, and a strong sense of community. From the moment I walked through the dojo's doors, I was greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere that instantly put me at ease. The instructors and fellow students made me feel like I was part of a tight-knit family, encouraging me every step of the way. This supportive environment sets Hoteikan Dojo apart from any other martial arts center I've encountered. The professionalism and expertise of the instructors at Hoteikan Dojo are truly commendable. Sensei Hiroshi Nakamura's dedication to teaching traditional karate is evident in every class. His profound knowledge and patient teaching style ensure that each student receives personalized attention and guidance. Under Sensei Nakamura's tutelage, I have not only developed my karate skills but also honed my mental focus and cultivated a deeper appreciation for the art of self-discipline. The classes at Hoteikan Dojo are well-structured, striking a perfect balance between physical fitness and mental growth. With a curriculum that caters to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced students, everyone is provided with an opportunity to progress at their own pace. The focus on core values, such as respect, humility, and perseverance, is ingrained into every aspect of training, helping me to become a better version of myself both on and off the mat. Hoteikan Dojo's commitment to instilling values in its students goes beyond the training hall. Community involvement and outreach initiatives are an integral part of the dojo's ethos. Whether it's participating in local charity events or organizing self-defense workshops for women in the community, the sense of altruism and giving back makes me proud to be associated with Hoteikan Dojo. The facilities at Hoteikan Dojo are immaculate, and safety is a top priority. The spacious training area is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, providing a comfortable and hygienic environment for all students. Additionally, the dojo's adherence to safety protocols during the ongoing pandemic has given me peace of mind while pursuing my passion for karate. One of the most remarkable aspects of Hoteikan Dojo is its diverse and inclusive community. People of different backgrounds, ages, and skill levels come together in pursuit of a common goal - personal growth through karate. The camaraderie among students fosters an atmosphere of mutual support and encouragement, inspiring everyone to push their limits and reach new heights. In conclusion, Hoteikan Dojo is a gem among martial arts centers, a place where passion for karate, dedication, and community spirit merge seamlessly. The positivity, encouragement, and guidance I have received from Sensei Nakamura and my fellow students have undoubtedly left a lasting impact on my life. I wholeheartedly recommend Hoteikan Dojo to anyone seeking a transformative martial arts journey filled with empowerment, discipline, and personal growth. Gratitude fills my heart as I reflect on the wonderful experiences I have had at Hoteikan Dojo. It is more than just a dojo; it is a place where dreams are nurtured, and individuals become the best versions of themselves.
I started karate at 15 years old and after a 30-year hiatus I jumped right into it again as a white belt with full devotion. I thought what a great way to stay fit . I prefer working out in the Dojo then going to the gym. The Hoteikan Dojo is conveniently located on Fort Hamilton pkwy right off the Expressway and I really appreciate the evening training schedule. I've been looking for a quality Dojo for training that's fairly priced that has later evening hours for quite some time. The sunsi's in this mixed martial arts school have been patient, supportive and inviting. Because of their professionalism, for me karake is becoming not only an interest but an important part of life. I appreciate coming several days a week training and building lasting friendships with like-minded successful people. I train in the evening and don't have children but I'm aware there are children classes earlier in the evening and every time I see all the kids being let out they are full of positive energy, they have strong self-esteem with huge smiles and there are often very proud parents in the waiting room. When I have children I'm confident I will start their training at Hoteikan early on. I promote the school and offer it to you with my highest recommendation for both adults and children.
My children Love their Sensei and have learned so much from them. This is a REAL Dojo, not like the commercially owned ones that just have kids play dodgeball or run obstacles for 30 mins and go home. This is a disciplined instruction with proper skills and technique. Family owned and worth every penny, everyone is welcomed and enjoys the classes, great group of students. 10 stars if I could.
My son loves his classes here. Very limited in person classes, following Covid restrictions well. Zoom classes are also fun and engaging. The instructors are warm and encouraging but also structured and firm.
I’m very happy that my daughter joined this place. Teacher’s are very nice and patients, explains everything. And the most important that they teach kids how to be respectful and have discipline. The best place for learning Karate!!!
I re-started my martial arts career here in New York City after seeral years of studyupstate when I was referred to Sensei Robert Hasman, who was Sensei Tom Carrano's main Karate instructer, under whom he earned his well-deserved first black belt rank. Sensei Hasman was a true master, god rest his soul -- and Tom had just earned his green belt in Shotkan Karate with Hasman when I was starting my ju jitsu career. Tom was often my partner, taking my throws and hand-locks; not easy or common for a straight Karate player. But Tom wanted to learn everything and we both learned by being beaten up on a regular basis by our respective senseis, though I'd say he got the worse end of it. By the time I got my black belt, Tom had his for years and he kept on learning and growing. We often did demonstrations together - he with his instructor, me with mine, Sensei CJ Krieger - so we go back about 25 years or so. Having been in the martial arts since around 1971, I can tell you that Tom is the real thing. Tom has studied, and absorbed like a sponge, everything taught by many instructors in various styles -- including my style of ju jitsu Shizen -Ryu, Judo with Grand Master "Reno" Emelio Claudio, and another Master sensei in another jujitsu style, Master Santiago Armstrong, who now operates a school in Arizona. New York's loss So he's got a lot of great influences and he is a dedicated, loving, respectful, and respecting teacher and gentle person. I tell you this straight -- no B.S. -- If I was ever to get into a fight again, I'd want Sensei Tom by my side. And believe me, I know a lot of martial artists from whom to choose. On a personal level, when I had no school in which to teach, Sensei Tom graciously invited me to his class to teach my style of jujitsu, a much softer style than his, an act of generosity rare in the martial arts. Anyone who goes to his school will be well served by this patient, smart, fit, dedicated, and talented martial artists. He's especially good with kids, so instead of sending your child to a Taek Won Do school or as we call it, "TAKE-ONE'S-DOUGH" and sign a lengthy contract where your son or daughter won't learn anything but you'll be stuck with that contract and wil pay and pay and pay; take him or her - and yourself - to Sensei Carrano's Martial Arts School. Even from a distance it's well worth the trip. It's located at 70th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway in Brooklyn, and class schedules vary, so you'll always have a great place to study, learn, and love what you're doing. A great many of his students continue their studies to black belt and beyond -- the bestmark of a good school and good teacher. I cannot say enough good things about sensei Tom and his school, so I'll just end it here. Go and see for yourself.
The best place for Martial Arts training. I've been going here for almost 2 years, training in Shotokan Karate, Judo, Japanese Jujitsu and Grappling. I learned a lot, made new friends and family.
Best martial arts studio in New York! Excellent teachers and top of the line training in a very safe environment!
