Howard Johnson by Wyndham Virginia Beach

I don’t usually leave reviews, but the lack of cleanliness of this hotel made me realize I needed to. Never have I found so many hairs on the provided towels and shower curtain in the room. All the paint on the ceiling was peeling throughout the room. The room had clearly been barely cleaned, as can be seen in the attached pictures: I found a shrimp tail and a cigarette under a table, and a huge stain vomit? Something else? was left in a corner. The shower also could not maintain a steady temperature for longer than 90 seconds - it alternated between scalding and freezing no matter how much you adjusted the knobs. Several of the tiles in the bathroom were also cracked, and were left in a condition that I didn’t believe was safe to walk on in bare feet. For the price, I understood what I was getting into, but a slightly better cleaning of the room would have gone a long way.

I will never ever ever again book a room with this Howard Johnson hotel in VA Beach on Shore Drive. I selected this hotel because the location was supposed to close to VA Beach but from the description I read about the location that was incorrect. It said about 15 minutes to get there but it was actually almost 30 minutes. But the main and most important reason is that the room was roach infested. Of course we didn't see any when we first arrived. I walked around and sprayed the entire room with lysol from back to front when we first arrived and didn't see one thing. After going out and returning, no problem. But later that night we saw one roach crawling near the door. So went around inspecting the room again but didn't see anymore. Not that I've never seen them before. When I was younger we lived in the projects and they were hard to get rid of no matter how clean you kept your place. But that was then. I don't expect to see them in hotel room I'm staying in. I stayed up late watching and moved all of our luggage and bags to the table and dresser and made sure they were closed up. We didn't see anymore until the next night. Every time we looked around there was one crawling on the wall. I was ready to go but because it was so late when we returned to the room we knew we wouldn't be able to find anything that time of night being it was a holiday weekend. I didn't get much sleep and you can be sure I inspected everything before I left out of that room and was glad to check out that morning. My other half returned the keycards to the office while I was getting everything together and I assumed he would mention that problem but of course he didn't. I would have because that's unsanitary. I'm sure that why he went while I was busy. He said they already know anyway. But that's beside the point. But I did bring that issue up with the travel agent and I'm waiting to hear back. Never again.

The night front desk clerk older white gentleman was a gem. The day time front desk clerk, Peter or Paul or whatever he's Americanized his name to be, was a jackass. His attitude was terrible, I mean rude as ever luckily he was behind the partition How can you be rude to someone who is trying to give you more money to stay a few days longer. This was the absolute worst service ever, outside of the night I checked in. I've already called corporate and Wyndham and I'll most definitely be waiting on a response even though I know they won't because I'm just a black girl complaining in their eyes but they have the right one. I wouldn't stay here ever again and don't recommend it either. They give all Howard Johnson Hotels a bad look.

It doesn't look the best when you pull in BUT the rooms are clean and the decor is modern. The check in was quick and very nice service. It's very conveniently located and the price is. I would definitely stay here aginRooms: 5/5

Good clean rooms with outdoor entrances and easy parking. Only complaint is main light outside of bathroom at vanity flickered like it was possessed, florescent bulb just needs to be changed. Staff was accommodating, friendly and helpful. Easy to hear neighbors through walls and doors if they're noisy, but when you're not spending tons if time in the room it doesn't matter much.

Room seemed clean…we had planned to stay for 2 nights. Our bathroom was leaking from the roof… saturated our bathroom floor. We told the staff which they offered to switch us too another room but it was a smoking room unfortunately. We tried to just wait it out however there are roaches at this place..called the front desk to have a resolution. None was found we are from Pennsylvania we left in the middle of the night. My card was still charged. 0/10. Disgusting

Several things didn't work in room. Toilet lose from floor. Hairdryer didn't work. Bathroom fan was so loud. Ice machine stopped working. They tried to charge my debit card $1650. For one night. The breakfest was juice coffee a muffin and granola bar.Rooms: 2/5
