Came here with my mother in law and her sisters to celebrate a late Mother's Day and had a wonderful time. Our server helped us with questions we had about the menu and gave great suggestions. The food was absolutely delicious and they give some good size servings. Many items could be easily shared. They also have a great selection of beers. Parking is a little challenging but this place is worth it!
For someone who loves rice, especially Asian rice, this place is the bee’s knees! Long grain, silky rice. I got their fried rice with tofu and each bite took me on a flavor adventure and I felt so satisfied. If I lived in Houston,I would make this restaurant a weekly habit. Highly recommend adding an egg to your rice dishes Kid friendly, I brought my 1 year old who made a rice mess, I tried cleaning up after but the staff was super nice about it and said don’t worry. Great selection of beers and wine here. Monday - Saturday has happy hour deals! Like 1/2 off wine glasses and $4 for select beers on Friday. Nice wooden interior decor makes the place feel homey but fresh.
Incredible food! I simply asked for their best seller and got the Shaking beef.. absolutely delicious. And I don't even like kale but it was one of the best salads I've had. Really happy it's only down the street from me. Very laid back atmosphere and great service. Will definitely be back!Food: 5/5
Tried this place on Saturday, ate here again on Monday. Best Bánh Mì I’ve had. One day I tried the Shaking chicken, other sautéed beef each with a fried egg. Both were good. The shaking chicken was awesome. Also tied the 5 spice pho and egg roll. Staff is great too!Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: YesCurbside pickup: Yes
My husband and I decided to try this. I live within walking distance. We weren't very adventurous tonight and ordered chicken tender baskets. Everything was fresh and good quality. The fries were excellent as were the tenders. The gravy was great. The service was as good as the food. We will be back and eat something Vietnamese next time!
A-maz-ing. 6 stars. Great service, great good, great beer selection. Fried rice 10/10. My wife said it was the best kale salad she ever had. Good vibes inside with great design character. Waiter gave a spot in beer rec.
To fully appreciate this unique "tavern and grill," you must be a beer drinker, which neither my husband and I are. We are "beer readers" though, and while waiting for our orders, we read about the many unique brewers posted on Hughies' illuminated billboard menu. There is a beer for every taste here and a good selection of affordable wine by the bottle or glass which is what I prefer.Thursdays are half price days after 3pm on their well priced bottles of wine. The cuisine is amazing It is unlike any Vietnamese food I have ever had. Every dish is tempting from the Shaking Chicken or Beef to their shrimp or salmon I usually have the grilled salmon, and it is always very fresh. It tastes perfect with the kale salad with their exquisite raspberry vinaigrette and dried cranberries . It is the best salad. My husband bounces around the menu, but often gets the banh mi Vietnamese sandwich. Whatever we get, we ask for Hughies' variety of sauces: peanut, dumpling, sweet & sour and fish sauce They add to the savory flavor of our food. The ambiance is cozy and the service is always very helpful and professional. We have enjoyed both the 18th Street and Main Street locations.
Have been coming here off and on for years and the service has always been great. The food is always out on time and in good order no matter if there is a packed house or not. Yesterday though was the exception due to the fact two servers could not keep their hands off the manager. They both consistently talked to him all night including when the food runner light was on. The manager was so preoccupied with talking to the two servers he didn't even tell them to run the food sitting in the window. So as a result my food came out warm and the garnishments was wilted telling me that it had sat in the window. This has never happened at Hughie's in the years that I have come here. The only saving grace was the bartender and the guy server who served us. He was busy most of the time picking up the slack from the two women servers. I've never seen this behavior with any of the other managers and hope this isn't a trend that will continue. I'm only writing this review to bring attention to this foul up in service. They were not even busy, and maybe I am a little bit spoiled from the amazing service they have always offered me when I come here but I would hate to have the standards they set fall because of one manager and two servers who couldn't stop flirting on shift. I realized that two years ago I left a 5 star review and I stand by it still!! This place is amazing.
Great food. Big portion sizes. Made fresh to order. Establishment does have a parking lot which is a plus for this area. For two appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 drinks we paid $60. My kind of meal! No need to dress up either. Real chill environment. Will definitely be back sooner than later. Highly recommend.
Hands-down my most frequented restaurant in my 6 years living in Houston! Affordable, extremely delicious and the service is top notch. There’s not much else to say. This place is simply a “must try”. Order crispy dumplings and the shaking beef - you won’t be disappointed.
