Hula Girl Bar and Grill has a well-deserved reputation as one of the few authentic Hawaiian restaurants in the area. The waiters are excellent guides to the more unique dishes on the menu spam-stuffed sushi, and there are great combination dishes to try several appetizers and entrees at once. A lot of sit-down seating and a tiki-style bar.
Hula Girl is a unique eatery and bar in an otherwise monotone area. The staff is friendly, the food is interesting, and the ambiance is fun. The largest drawback was the pricing. It was about $40 for two people ordering happy hour food. Also, the restraunt was a little cold. That could have easily been because they were expecting more bodies for dinner rush. I would go again, but only on happy hour.
Went here weekday lunch hoping to share some solid Hawaiian food with the family and let them try some things I enjoy from visits to the islands. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good, but did expect a bit more than was offered. First the highs, they do offer a varied selection of Kona and Maui brews as you would expect at $6-9 dollars which is about average for the area. They have Loco Moco, standard Spam offerings, Kalua Pork, Maui Onion Rings, and Poke. The Maui Onion rings are good offered as a side with mains/sandwiches. The Loco Moco was decent, but nothing creative or different about it, pretty average and over priced. The poke was decent and fun to share with people who haven’t tried it, but I was disappointed to hear the fish is farm raised. It is pricey for the portion size, and farm raised just isn’t as tasty or healthy. The Spicy Tuna Poke is a bit over dressed with too much sauce, good idea, just too much. The Kalua Pork was a major let down, it wasn’t memorable at all and didn’t really share much in common with Kalua Pork in Hawaii. The place is clean and decor is nice, but it was pretty empty for a weekday lunch. The service was friendly, but scatter brained, and a bit awkward. Overall the food isn’t remarkable, and it is just simply over priced.
Was hopeful for this place. However, it was a dismal experience. The décor is the only thing that it has going for it. The beer was cold always a good thing. The french fries had a spice that the kids didn't like and we were not aware of be ordering. The spam musubi was lackluster. The loco moco was decent and a good portion. The chicken katsu was terrible and the katsu sauce was awful. The rice was traditional enough but the mac salad was missing flavor. We already spent enough money and decided to skip dessert rather than to be disappointed.
Aloha means hello and goodbye, hula must mean heaven because this meal was to die for. If this isn't your first stop on a food tour of Arlington, you might as well pack up and go back home. Fried spam and chicken katsu were just a few of the taste bud altering bites we had. I highly recommend it
Everything was fantastic! Great cocktails, first time trying a Poke Bowl and it was so fresh and flavorful! And the sugary doughnuts are a must for dessert!
Food was good. A lot of the food had either a sweet taste or a sweet sauce to compliment it. Chicken Katsu was cooked perfectly. Side dishes are lacking in variety. Ambience and area are lively and friendly.
Fairly good, especially if you miss food from the islands. I feel like the price is maybe a dollar or two higher than what I would’ve liked, but is about on par for a meal in the area, so I guess that’s fair. Still, a good place and one where I’d go to again when I’m in town.
Too bad this is closing but great tasting food. Usually empty when I go there but since they're closing this week it was packed. Always great portion sizes.
Great food sadly dropped 1 star due to cost of mixed drinks and slightly slow service near the end. $14 for a mahi tai was a bit much since it's only a pint glass. Would return
