Humane Society of Southwest Missouri

The humane society is amazing. I found my dog ice there that I lost for about a year and a half. (Long story) but when I found him there he was well taken care of he didn't look injured or scared and he was happy as ever. I am beyond happy to have my baby back and I thank all the staff for watching over him. I fully intend to start volunteering in my free time within the next few months because I'm so grateful for all of the staff.

Plenty of dogs and cats to choose from. Adoption rates are pretty inflated for being mostly Heinz 57 variety, but they do have overhead. My biggest problem is there lack of knowledge and/or records keeping. Adopted what is very clearly a Maltese, but they had it listed as a short haired Chihuahua. When asked about it, their reasoning was, "That's what the previous owner had put down". I suppose if he had listed it as a dinosaur they would have just went with it. Animals are supposedly checked by a vet, but the one I adopted was ill and clearly traumatized. It will require an actual checkup by a reputable vet clinic. Overall, you can find some good pets there. You just have to take what the staff says with a grain of salt.

They did a promotion where you could get your dog chipped for only $20 so me and my dog (Dex) went and it was a first-come-first-serve basis. We went and we were number 22 and everything was fine we just had to wait a little while, but that's what you get when you have a first-come-first-serve. The people where very nice and tryed their best to get you through quickly which I appreciated (we had been there for about 4 hours) after that they gave us all we needed and we where on our way. He seems happy when we were done.

We foster for the shelter and have 2 puppies we fostered when they were 4 weeks old. They'll be 2 in June. Other than when it's kennel cleaning time, it doesn't smell much. The dogs are well cared for, keeping the barking down. Everytime we're there, kennel workers and volunteers are taking dogs out for exercise and to go potty. You can tell they really love their job and the animals.

When we adopted our pit bull the staff was wonderful! They even let us bring our black lab in to make sure the two of them would get along. I would definitely recommend adopting your fur baby from here!
