My family has been a part of the Immanuel community for 10 years, and we're grateful to have found this church home. We started here as newlyweds and just exploring options, looking for a potential place where we could both worship and feel fully whole in the church. The Episcopal Church and Immanuel in particular have been that place. I appreciate Immanuel for what I get from the parish - children's formation, adult formation, care for creation and for each other, beautiful music ministry, and clergy who are compassionate, caring, thoughtful, good preachers, and fellow journeyers. But what I love most about it is the community's care for each other, and for others, as being central to our being followers of Christ.
Our family has been blessed to be members here for coming up on 5 years. It's a warm, welcoming and supportive community. There is so much on offer ranging from two beautiful chapels and regular kids’, youth and senior activities to spectacular, transcendent choral music. All of this centers around deep Christian faith and spirituality, and a very strong service ethic. Look no further if you're seeking a church home in these troubled times.
This church is so friendly. When I first attended, several members stepped forward to welcome me and tell me about the church. I liked that the church is connected with Virginia Seminary. The sermons are inspiring and compelling, which is important to me. I’m inspired by the consistent focus on God’s love. I’ve found my niche in small groups within the larger community. I highly recommend this Christian community.
This church is Home to me for many reasons, but here are 5. One - It’s Episcopalian, which means our questions are always welcome. Two – it’s enriched by its relations with Virginia Theological Seminary programs and people. Three – as a parish, we’re seen as individuals, and know our differences enrich each of us. Four – the people here show up for God’s work and for each other. Five – our clergy call us to account for recognizing Jesus, and for remembering Jesus’ final words to his disciples, of all the things he could have said, were, “Just love one another.”
Intellectual and inspiring sermons. Friendly clergy, vestry, and attendees. Great outreach, great fellowship, great youth program. Casual dress. My partner and I were welcomed with open arms from day 1. Day 1 was in 1999. We were seeking a church home. The Episcopal service was a familiar structure without being stuffy. The people were super friendly - without being 'too much'. In 2002, I was obviously pregnant. The clergy approached me. I braced myself for a lot of questions two moms was a very new notion back then! But instead of questions, we were invited to have the baby baptized. I broke down in tears of joy. We knew we were home. The sermons are amazing and help me grow spiritually. Godly Play, is offered for 3-7 year olds during the service. There's a nursery available during most services. There is a strong youth program pizza parties, bon fires, apple picking, movie nights, ski trips and more. The fellowship of these people is amazing. Our pumpkin patch funds a strong outreach program - helping many people locally / nationally / internationally. If you're looking for a church, worship with us! Come as you are. :
We’ve been coming to Immanuel, which is a loving, caring, child friendly community, for 5 years. What sold us on the church as we church shopped was one beautiful soul who came outside the chapel on Easter Sunday to help me deal with, play with, an overly excited and wild 1 year. It’s been our spiritual home ever since.
I grew up in this church, it has changed and expanded over the years but the thing that has remained the same is the amazing parish. It truly does feel like a family. I went off to college and one of the things I would look forward to most is coming home and seeing everyone I knew at church and especially loved the Christmas Eve services. Over the years there have been many new things happening like new youth group meetings, new Bible study sessions, and a new group that discusses social justice issues. I currently live out-of-state and have not found a new church out here don't think I plan to anymore but due to covid pretty much everything I could want is available over zoom or through Youtube livestreams. I have very much appreciated how the church has not let covid beat them and have found new ways to come together in study and worship.
We have three generations at ICOH. We love this caring community that loves us back just as we are. We are always welcomed with warmth and kindness. When we chose ICOH 16 years ago, I was impressed with the down-to-earth people I met, and they have become a treasured community. All are welcome!
Fun little pumpkin patch lots of different pumpkins and kind people helping out. Good prices
Supportive and loving community, strong in helping others less fortunate. Especially recommend Zabriskie chapel, memorial garden, and other facilities.
