I had a wonderful experience here! All the comedians were hilarious and were so on point with their jokes. The space is also perfect for crowd involvement especially with how close you are to the "stage". There is a bar just outside of the main room that serves drinks and given you are on the main North End strip you can also hit some spots beforehand. The improv asylum is a must visit spot in Boston!
We live close by and kept trying to get tickets but it was constantly sold out. Finally successful and it was well worth the wait! I laughed until my face hurt! The cast is incredibly talented, venue small enough so you truly feel like you’re part of the show. Highly recommend!!!
A fantastic night out! An out-of-town visitor wanted to see the local comedy scene and we laughed for two straight hours. The performers were clearly having a ball, with high energy, clever wordplay, and an ability to embrace audience suggestions and use them throughout the show. Looking forward to attending again.
Funny! I wasn't expecting it to be so fun and engaging. The place is in the basement of a building in the North End, a little bit small, which is what makes it more engaging. There is a full bar on premise so you can get hammered before the show starts, it makes it even more fun and funnier. Highly recommended!
For the rest of my life I will talk about my experience at Improve Asylum. It was an experience of a lifetime. I can not think of a time I have laughed harder. The fact that they involved the audience and created a fun and uplifting atmosphere made it even better! I would recommend that everyone go!
Fun time. Thought the layout was interesting. From where I sat the performance was almost always facing away from me. I’d like to see the front of people sometimes and not just their butts. Maybe swap the starting position more often. the main reason for a star loss was the drink prices. $15 for nothing special.
Shows sell out multiple times a week, and for good reason; easily the best comedy in Boston
I had a few safety concerns. One way in and one way out. The world is crazy and I need to feel like I have options. Chaotic inside with no one to tell you where a line starts or ends. The bar seemed pretty sufficient.
Meh. Not saying improv is easy, it’s not. And I do think a lot of these people were witty and good actors on the spot. But the material was extremely bland and TikTok-ey. But I guess that’s also the audience in Boston? Can’t kill ‘em for it hence the 3/5, but if you’re interested in comedy in the form of Tim Dillon, Nick Mullen, Shane Gillis, Tom Segura, old Howard Stern etc that brand of humor that pushes buttons, I don’t think you’ll enjoy this show. If you're into comedy from former theater kids, you’ll love this show.
Yes, they do ask for a lot of participation from the audience. But don’t worry, no one was put on the spot and all participation was voluntary! Show was hilarious, I especially loved the bit where they took one audience member, interviewed her, then put on a performance of a day in her life. It was so funny, and the crowd was busting up laughing. It was a nice late night activity to do while we visited the city from out of town. Be warned: unless you want a bar, the restaurant options after the 8 pm Thursday show are incredibly limited! I have no idea why most restaurants are closing so early around the north end, because there were so many people packed on the streets. My suggestion is to eat beforehand or do your research ahead of time to eat afterwards.
