'Ōiwi Ocean Gear

This store is a “gotta stop.” David Kim is the proprietor and creates all the graphic images and designs all the clothes. Wearing a piece of his clothing is like wearing an original lithograph on your body. The designs are beautiful and reflect the spirit of Hawaii—plus David is so generous with his knowledge of and pride in Hawaii. Whenever I find myself in Waikiki, I’ll make sure to stop in at Oiwi.

I was looking for a place to get a shirt I could wear while snorkeling that would protect me from the sun and came across this place on a Google search. The store has women's clothing on the left and men's clothing on the right. When we came in, we were immediately greeted by the owner. She was very friendly and talked about how he husband does all the designs for the clothes. The designs on the clothes are really tastefully done and quite beautiful and stylish. I ended up getting a long sleeve shirt and board shorts. The material on the shirt is really soft and smooth. I had that shirt on while snorkeling and sitting out in the sun and didn't get burned at all! The shorts are lightweight and fairly comfortable. Both dry fairly quickly, with the shorts drying incredibly fast. I was really happy with the quality of the clothes I bought and love buying from small, local stores. The clothes are a little on the pricy side, but it really seems worth it.
