It is such a wonderful pleasure to come here for dinner when I come visit my hometown of Omaha. I come here not only for sentimental reasons but for their aged steaks that are THE BEST I've had anywhere . Everything about our dinner tonight was exceptional. Congratulations to the Kawa family for 100 years and wishing them all the best in the years to come. They have stood the test of time and it's so nice to see Johnny's Cafe is still going strong. My husband had the Porterhouse and I had the amazing New York Strip. Both were cooked perfectly to order. Their crisp onion rings have a lovely , light coating that melts in your mouth. The Cowboy Mashed potatoes were so flavorful, I found myself scraping the dish remnants out with a piece of steak! The Salted Chocolate Caramel Decadence dessert lived up to it's name. Just the right size, with an "oh so delicious" rich cocoa taste that's not super sweet like the best fudge you've ever had. Our server, Elizabeth, was attentive, friendly and had a wonderful attitude. We hope to see her again here on our next visit to Johnny's .
I'll be honest: this is only the second time I have been to Johnny's. To give you an idea of how long it has been since the first time, Google wasn't even a company. It might have been timing, etc, but we got right in, and we're seated at a nice table. Our waitress was very pleasant and kept on top of our needs despite having a very large party to take care of. I had the ribeye, and my wife had the prime rib. We both opted for salad and mashed potatoes for our sides. The meat was cooked almost perfectly per our requests. The prime rib was not over flavored, like you can find at some places. My steak was good, as a piece of beef should be. Steak sauce is available if you want to flavor. The entire meal 2 teas, entrée, and one desert was about $80, which we do about once every three months and was worth the experience we received. I do recommend going there and enjoying a nicely prepared dinner in a beautiful setting. This review was NOT sponsored, and all my opinion Features: No covid safety practices that I saw.
There's a reason why this establishment has been here so long. The prime rib is packed with flavor, and was perfect. Only reason for 4 stars is the sides are old school and they do fit. But they could be elevated a little ya know maybe some lobster Mac or charred Brussels just something besides potato choices, salad, soup. I would definitely pay an upcharge.
Server was super. Food was delicious. First time here that the steak hasn't been so dry it was hard to eat. Had the Geronimo, rare... cooked perfectly. Tender, juicy, flavorful. Will be back for this one!
I had a good time here. Super friendly staff I expected going to the place with this kind of tradition. Drinks were good, steak was ok a little undercooked and under seasoned for my liking but I added some salt and pepper and was good to go. Serving sizes we're great especially given the price. All in all I was glad I went
We met my cousin here for dinner, and she was anxious for us to try Johnny's. I see why she chose this restaurant, as the interior decor is really interesting and fun. We had fried chicken and it was delicious. Lacy, our server was very sweet and accommodating. The only thing I didn't care for was the parking- a little awkward to get back on the freeway at least it was on this dark rainy night.
This place is really cool. It's been around for almost a century. We went for the prime rib special for 2. It was generally good, though next time I would try something else. It was a bit thin. My favorite part of the meal was the cheesy stuffed potato. I wasn't a fan of the dessert. The meal itself was 3 stars. I really want to love this place because the people behind it seem amazing. The people are 5 stars and the setting/atmosphere is very interesting. Worth checking out since it's such a unique place. Parking is available in a large lot, the only thing is getting to it is interesting since it's off of the highway and you have to come onto it in a very specific way. We just followed the GPS and we did arrive there without an issue.
Only 2 stars because service was excellent. Service was 5 stars. Everything else was 1 star. The potatoes were instant, the chicken fried steak was dry and didn't come with gravy. It was so tough and dry I could barely eat it. Expected better for the price. For 25 dollars a plate, you'd think they could cook what they have on the menu properly.
Good experience overall. Steak was a bit tough. Fat was pretty well gristle. Ordered med-rare, it was cooked properly, flavor of the steak was good. Also had the spinach artichoke dip which was phenomenal, and the beef barley soup was amazing. Cheesecake is homemade, and absolutely worth getting!
After 100 years this amazing steakhouse is still going strong!! They absolutely go out of their way to satisfy your experience!! Yummy prime rib and steaks are just a bonus to the ambiance! Open lunch and dinner with great cocktails and fine wine. Service is exceptional too!
