This was my first ever experience of learning photography by some tutor. I would say this experience was great and it made me interested in learning more about photography. My class was with JP and he is really a great teacher. It is very engaging class and JP used to interact with each and everyone of us, so that everyone is at the same page in terms of absorbing the knowledge he imparted. At any point of class, I didn't feel overwhelmed or need to mug up the lessons given! I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who is trying to learn photography. And I am looking forward to take more classes from JP :
My dad and I took the beginner class yesterday so we could both dive into learning my new and his somewhat new DSLR cameras and better photography. We loved the class and JP's teaching style. JP has a great approach that is low key and not stressful. He really empowers his students to feel confident moving forward in their photography. I hope to take his part 2 class! And as a side note, our class was moved indoors because of rain and it was still a great experience!
Start Making Sense JP’s Make Sense of Your Camera group class. We’d all purchased real cameras but were, to varying degrees, unable to use them. Some cameras had stayed in the box, unused, for years. Some of us were so frustrated with our cameras we’d retreated to taking cellphone photos. We didn’t need a photography class. We needed the baby steps of turning dials, asking questions. Maybe 15 people in the class, each with a different camera. We all needed the same information, the same clues and encouragement. It is JP’s insight that a class giving simple, clear information to a group would work He did some fine-tuning by brand - Canon people that adjustment dial is here. That's the kind of skilled teaching that comes from paying careful attention to others. The room was full of smiles at the end of the class. This class should be a bonus accessary included with every B&H camera purchase.. __________________________________________ 2nd Class - Private Lesson: - The Perfect Pandemic Photography Class - Imagine having the undivided attention of an excellent photography instructor for one hour. I took JP’s Making Sense of Your Camera class and was looking forward to taking another class with him. Enter pandemic. I realized that what would be most helpful was an in-depth discussion of the photos I’d already taken. Why isn’t this in focus? Why is this in focus, but the wrong color? How do I keep this from happening? This is what I was trying to do - how can I get closer to that? JP said this was absolutely something we could do, and thanks to zoom and photo metadata I had hour of really helpful instruction. The remote set-up allowed us to look at a photograph and its metadata showing the settings used for the photo simultaneously on our monitors. In fact we were able to view multiple photos at the same time which was very helpful. On reflection, this would have been much more difficult to do in person. JP is a natural teacher with the ability to share technical and aesthetic knowledge simply and patiently. To fine tune his explanations to settings on my camera, he downloaded the manual for it before our session so he could give me specific instructions like- moving that dial on the right counter- clockwise allows you to adjust ___. He is tremendously attentive to a student’s interests and desires. He is also positive and encouraging about what you’ve done and builds on that to suggest possible ways to get closer to what you are trying to do. We looked at photographs I’d taken out my kitchen window of birds on the feeder and also photos of my garden. Among other things he gave me tips on wildlife photography tip #1- keep pressing the shutter. We also discussed the limitations of my camera which allowed me to alter my expectations and eliminate the frustration I’ve had and the time I’ve wasted trying to do things that my camera could not do. There was so much information in the one hour session I went from feeling overwhelmed and frustrated to feeling eager to begin again. I’ll be ready with more specific and complicated questions for another session. There are so many things we can’t do right now; movies, concerts, classrooms, theater. A private class with JP is an info-per-minute bargain. This class hit the spot
I really enjoyed this class. The style of teaching experiential was great for actually understanding how the camera works and setting photographers up to make adjustments intuitively. JP is also very accessible for questions and for pre and post class interaction which makes the experience much more personal.
I had JP as my level one instructor. This was a great class. He very articulately and clearly explained the fundamentals of photography and how to get started taking pictures in the real world. I’m looking forward to level two.
EXCELLENT!!!! JP takes the ordinary photographer's skill up a notch- within the first 10 mins of class. I took the Photo 1 class and I couldn't have made a better choice in picking the best class with concise/hands on experience. Beyond just teaching, he has a great personality and will find out any answer to the camera/photo question. I thoroughly enjoyed my class and looking forward to taking another level once I practice.
JP loves to teach photography! He has a natural gift for teaching and kept our interest the entire 3 hour class a first for me!. He stressed from the beginning "there will be no memorization necessary", exactly what I found tedious about photography. Guess what?; No memorization necessary! JP's explanations, simple, but easy to understand, took the mystery out of my "mysterious" SLR. I would not hesitate to recommend his class and my daughter and I can't wait for the follow up class. Thank you JP!
I took the beginner's class a couple of weeks ago, and I would recommend it without reservation. The lesson was informative, understandable, hands on, and paced well. The proof of its value is in my pictures - I now know that my point-and-shoot camera has many tricks up its sleeve, and the photos I take now are of an entirely different quality than those I took before JP's class.
Took the beginner class today and it was informative. JP is amazing. Thank you JP, I truly have a better understanding of Aperture and shutter speed. Cannot wait to take the other three classes..
Great content that makes you think photography in a more intuitive way. JP and Lydia are very engaging. Awesome customer service too as I had issue with a cancelled class and was able to resolve it all on the same day. I highly recommend taking any classes.
