Story

Caring for Wichita’s pets since 1888, KHS receives no funding from city, county, or state government and depends entirely on private donations and fees for service to carry out its mission.

The Kansas Humane Society has wonderful animals for adoption and a retail store with great toys, treats and supplies. My husband and I had a very good experience adopting our kitten from here. We arrived earlier in the day on a Saturday and only had to wait about 10 minutes. We were able to walk around freely and explored their little shop while we waited. Every staff member we talked to was very friendly and helpful. The adoption process was simple and smooth and didn't take long at all. I would definitely adopt here again if we decide to get any more animals in the future.
We love supporting KHS! In August we rescued our dog Duke, he fit in right away and is such a great dog! Just last week we rescued 4 guinea pigs, they're doing great adjusting and we can't wait until they're 100% comfortable here with us. #adoptdontshop
Got a beautiful cat named Gilligan, though he didn't answer to it. He has already claimed the house and loves u ending head rubs. The staff there is amazing and so very nice. Thank you!
Took my son today to see about a friend for him since it's been almost a year since he had to put his best friend on the rainbow Bridge. He fell in love with this cute little girl. The process was great and they asked us many times if we had any questions. She has put the sparkle back into my son's eyes that had been hiding for almost a year. Thank you to the humane society .
Got both my dogs there. Really good place I got my cat there as well. They provide you with a bit of food to get started with your animal as well. Very friendly. Sometimes quite full so be prepared to wait
They try so hard here, to keep the animals happy. Very kind & caring staff. Got the cutest little dog here, who is extra Smart for sure.
I just adopted the best doggo ever from here, people call this place a killing field but I believe it's people who need to be retrained that dogs and cats are family and aren't to be discarded I saw a level of care here that was good, people were sad when they knew they had to put down animals. They do the best they can with what they have and I commend them for helping the animals that they are able to help like this beautiful girl, who has now found her furever home
They were very friendly and took great care of our Momma cat, Olivia. They answered all the questions we had, provided aftercare instructions and medications. Both drop off and pick up were quick and on time.
It was clear and very organized they really care about the animals and who they go to. We looked at 2 other dogs and unfortunately they didn't get along with our 2 girls but the last one our girls and her got along and she ended up coming home with us. The humane society is really dedicated to finding homes for their animals!
I went to visit cats . And they let me go right too them no questions asked . I did not adopt one , but looked for one to replace mine who had gone missing a week earlier. Then a few days later my cat came home . Now I don't need another one. I was so happy . I'm a cat lover. Here's her photo , BabyDoll.
