Incompetent management and a disorganized, deliberately understaffed maintenance department make what should be a great place to live into a ripoff. Getting even the most basic maintenance done is a struggle. A leak upstairs caused a hole in my bathroom ceiling which took over 4 months to fix. The company has known about other maintenance issues for months but has neglected to do anything about it. The units themselves have large spaces and big windows, but the fit-out and fixtures are not great, with obvious corners cut in many places. The walls are thin, the carpets wear quickly, and it requires herculean effort to open some of the windows. Common areas also show obvious signs of neglect, with broken door handles fire code violation? and stair railings. Do not live here, unless you can get a very good deal and are willing to pull teeth when something breaks.
The neighborhood near Middle East is extremely unsafe with two gun violence issues in 1 year. The building is old, worn down and has pest control issues. The management is lazy and unhelpful. They raised prices at the last minute so that people would have no other options to choose from. Even if you think you are getting a good deal, this place is not worth it.
I worked with Joseph for the application process. He was very patient. He communicated effectively. He listen very well. He provided information in a timely manner and his follow up is unmatched. He was very understanding and provided impeccable customer service! As a property management professional myself, I feel as though he displayed the standard of what a leasing/housing coordinating professional should be. I am very grateful to have worked with someone who operates with professionalism and provides stellar customer service. Thank you!
Expensive for what it is, noisy e.g. random alarms in the middle of the night, walls do not protect well against noise pollution from other buildings and dirty in many places of the building e.g. laundry. No good sport facilities in the building or nearby. Concierge is not responsive, absent half of the time and nobody is there during the night. Leasing an apartment involves an absurd amount of bureaucracy. In summary, to avoid - I found student dorms to have a way better price/quality ratio.
KBL is a lovely well-maintained historic building. Lived here for several years. Management was friendly and helpful. Location is super convenient -3 min to star market/ 5 min to Central T/ 10 min to MIT. Would definitely live here again if I move back to Boston.
