This ramen shop was located inside the 99 Ranch Asian Market. Ordering was quick, but waited quite a long time for the food even though it was 2 pm on a Saturday. The ramen was surprisingly good. I have had ramen at a couple of popular ramen shops in Manhattan. I would say this was as good if not better certainly much better priced. The noodles were cooked at the perfect doneness and the soup was flavorful. The Juicy fried chicken bowl with rice was good too.
One of the big chain ramen restaurants in Japan, this is their first location in the USA. While not quite as good as in Japan, they serve a nice hearty ramen with fairly clean broth. I wished the tea eggs were the traditional soft boiled eggs with a runny or goofy yolk. Overall a good place for a quick ramen fix with several delivery options if you need a ramen bowl that badly. The Charsiu roasted pork is nice a tender with a slight Smokey flavor. A bowl of ramen starts at $8.50 but adding options like tea eggs or extra noodles adds $1.50 to $2 an option. There are spicy ramen bowls, all char siu ramen bowls, and even vegetarian ramen bowls. Ramen bowls prices are on par for the NYC METRO AREA. They also have Gyoza which is average to above average for the price.
JAPAN Eat the World NYC review: When talking about "Big 3" regional styles of ramen, most people outside of Japan have heard of Hakata and Sapporo styles, both having evolved from large metropolitan areas with many vendors and varieties. But a third lesser known style was developed in northern Honshu in the small village of Kitakata which gives it its name. Known for its storehouses full of soy sauce, Kitakata-style ramen uses this as its base, a type of shoyu. ° The bowl itself appears simple, a broth full of noodles and topped with chashu and some thinly sliced spring onion, but do not let this fool you. This broth has been extracting pure umami from pork bones for "long hours" which gives it an almost smoky and toasted taste, full of earth and charcoal. ° Ban Nai is the most famous source of this style of ramen, with 62 locations around Japan. Here in the United States there are now two in Orange County, California, one outside of Chicago, and now one tucked into a grocery store in Jersey City.
I'm surprised that they opened Kitakata ramen in Jersey city. Actually, they turuly serve one of AUTHENTIC ramen in Japan. I'm positive because I grew up Kitakata area which made Kitakata ramen. Tonkotsupork ramen is not only Japanese ramen. They served tasty soy sauce ramen and miso ramen was also pretty good. It is good to discover a new ramen if you are already bored with Tonkotsu ramen :
Pros 1. Fried Juicy Chicken Thighs are Freshly Made. 2. Restaurant Made Ramen Noodles. 3. Well Cooked Rice. 4. Special House Sauce is good. 5. After doing Grocery Shopping Sit to Eat or Before. 6. My Go To Hearty Dish is my own Creation 3 Chicken Piece with No Rice just Green Chill Ramen. Mix the Special Sauce with Fresh Squeeze of Lemon and Bam!! Fried Chicken Chilli Ramen. $15.00, Worth It. Cons 1. I wish they had Sauteed Ramen Dishes but I get it keep it Traditional and Easy on the Kitchen Staff. Less Work will Continue making Executed Dishes. *So this is a Pro and Con for me actually..* ha
Very nice soup & roasted pork w fresh made noodles. Ordered Kitakata Ramen. See posted pictures for prices 2017 Aug Very tasty pork bone soup and special roast pork which melts in mouth cause a nice sensation. Try it!
Soup was ok though. Waited more than half hour for my noodle take-out. Even later two orders with similar items came much earlier than mine. Ordered seasoned egg as ramen's topping, and found no egg in the takeout when I got home. If I could tip after being served, I won't tip 5 dollar on my $25 order.
The ramen is good when it arrives. Unfortunately too many delivery issues. Placed an order 30 minutes ago and just got notified that it was canceled due to “internet issues.” Seriously? In jersey city you don’t have a reliable internet connection? I think they just got backed up and decided to cancel deliveries. Not a good business practice - also not the first time I’ve had a delivery issue with them. Won’t be ordering from here again.
Ramen is pretty good here. I wish they boiled broth a lot more though of course I can't compare with ramen sold in Japan but it's worth the price. I really like green onion ramen
Best place to eat! Staff does their best to make it right and presentable, I always tip! My favorites are the chashu bowl and Tsukemen
