Korean K9 Rescue
"We are a non-profit, No-Kill 501c3 dog rescue organization based in Queens, New York that saves dogs from the meat trade, puppy mills, and high-kill shelters in South Korea. Due to the stigma associated with mixed-breed dogs and those from dog meat farms, most dogs have a low chance of being adopted in South Korea and run the risk of being euthanized. We transport at-risk dogs to the New York City, where we place them in loving forever homes. Our current eligible locations for adoption include NYC, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., and Maryland.Korean K9 Rescue is creating a better future for homeless and mistreated dogs with the help of kind, compassionate adopters!"

KK9 is an amazing rescue and the staff truly care about the dogs and finding the best owner for each of them. I have fostered over 10 dogs with the org and I can vouch for how great everything is. Gina and Vicky are readily available for when things happen and check in daily, helpful tips are provided for the many issues that come up with rescue dogs, and there is a supportive community. Adopters and fosters from the org stay in contact and are continually helped by KK9! Most importantly, the dogs are the sweetest and cutest! Their process to bring them to the US from Korea is seamless and they are always trying to improve how they work with their volunteers and what is best for the dogs. I’ve also volunteered at adoption events and they have strict rules in place so the dogs can be a comfortable as they can and not scared. If you’re looking to foster or adopt a dog, this is the place!
We adopted our dog Mika through Korean K9 in 2019. They are an exceptionally well run organization where the priority is always on the dogs needs and saving as many as possible. Because the dogs are rescued internationally some costs might be higher than domestic shelters, and the dogs might also have specific needs that don't make them suited to all environments, especially highly stimulative or busy households. Thanks to their rigorous screening process, very few dogs are returned to the shelter. We are grateful we were able to adopt from them and would encourage anyone who believes they would be a good fit to apply to foster or adopt from them.
I have a long history with this rescue organization from adopting & fostering and cannot say enough great things about the rescue and the team behind it… the time and resources and effort that is put into this organization by the KK9R team behind the scenes is incredible, especially since non-profit work can be thankless and unnoticed a lot of time. I was first connected with my very first dog who has since passed in 05/2022 by Gina and I don’t know if that woman ever sleeps because she always made time to answer all my first time dog owner questions and concerns no matter the time! I have then since fostered with them while I slowly was readying myself for another dog & Vicky and the other foster organizers were very helpful throughout that as well! Always made time for me and thanked me for fostering! We ultimately decided when we were ready to bring home our new pup into our hearts we would go with KK9R again The trainer they connected us to us amazing and the alumni group is full of resources and provides an irreplaceable sense of community and camaraderie
Interesting experience. Definitely felt more like a business than an adoption/rescue place. It was $700 to adopt the pupper Which I felt was High but okay. and then a surprising $750 mandatory trainer fee. Yes they will attest that it was written on the application process but the wording can be misunderstood as an extra service they recommend not MANDATE. Plus additional fees were still to come. Just to put this in perspective, I 100000% believe Adopt Don't Shop, but you can literally take 1 hour drive to PA and see a breeder to adopt any dog you'd like for ~$1,000. With this being said, I also believe in 'Greenwashing' and this is exactly what is happening here. Also to put in perspective, my fiancé volunteers at a rescue and their fees are $450 regardless of the puppers age. It felt more like a business transaction than a good deed being done by two parties who truly care about animals. Some positives I would share: The foster parents were there and they were very nice. Our interviewer was very nice as well and asked great question. So they definitely do a great job in vetting out who the owners are by asking the right questions. This is not at all to dismantle someone's business but more of a be aware of the type of rescue you are transacting with. Weird behavior from a Non-Profit.
We adopted Cayambe previously Fommy 9 months ago and are so thrilled that she's a part of our family now. She joined us and our bulldog mix Vesuvius in our home and has blossomed into an outgoing, loving dog. When we first got her, she was fearful of us and new people, but she has over the months, opened up and now greets new people with confidence. We've been able to build a relationship of trust with her and are now in a place where she's able to run around in the forest with her dog friends off-leash to explore the woods and swim in creeks. We can't thank Korean K9 enough for their thoughtful, robust process of vetting, and training us to make a safe and welcoming home for her so that she can build a new life with us with ease. Their process vets out those who would not be able to provide the safety, structure, and care that these dogs need - it's so appreciated now that we look back! Caya has come such a long way, but at the end of the day, we know that she is still learning and growing from her trauma and are so glad the KK9R prepared us for this journey. Highly recommend KK9R and the system they rigorously abide by to give these dogs a great home.
