This is an absolutely Stellar concept! The menu is exceptional, the brunch is phenomenal and never disappoints, and the bar program is creative and has the single best Bloody Mary I've had in Milwaukee! The price point is unbelievably fair for the incredible quality of dining experience that you're getting. The menu is thoughtful and well executed and just delicious!
Amazing food & cocktails here!! We visited from out of town a few weekends ago for my boyfriend’s birthday and accidentally left behind some glassware we had purchased at a nearby brewery Eagle Park. They held it for me until the following day. I was super relieved that it was safe! Santiago was our server and he was very helpful and attentive. We’re vegetarians and appreciated the variety of meatless options. I’ll definitely make this spot a staple when visiting Milwaukee in the future.
I find this place very unique. The food and the ambience both were amazing. They have a wide variety of empanadas to choose from. I loved the lamb and pesto chicken flavour but to be honest all the flavors are very different from one another and worth the try. The mezcal drink was smoky and exactly as expected. For dessert, we ordered the deconstructed pecan empanada. I loved that too. Must give this place a try. I am sure you will love it.
Most empanadas in North America lean more towards corn flour based pastry. I noticed right away that these were more rough puff pastry, wheat flour based. I had the Argentine Beef A Grilled Chicken Pesto PC and the Carnitas Verde C. Each had an identifying stamp. A was the star of the trio the bites were filled with complex flavors. The olives and raisin punctuated the flavorful shredded beef. The shell was soft, but layered. I would have preferred more salt in the dough and a bit more color and crunch. Also the forked seal edges were missing which indicated a press. A small detail that only effect perception not flavor. The grilled chicken pesto was lacking the grill flavor in grilled and as much, the pesto showed up and partied hard as one would expect pesto to do. The carnitas verde was bland and I struggled to feel and taste the salsa verde component. But the overall note was elevated with small spoons of the chimichurri and Ahi Amarillo aioli. Both of which were stellar. I missed ordering the garlic and lime. The jicama slaw was a complex crunchy delight and reset the pallet between each empanada. a brief but satisfying wine menu allowed a reasonable glass for meal time and a "desert" selection. In conclusion the three empanada entree was a delightfully satisfying meal accompanied with a glass of wine. I think that northern palettes are ready for full flavor and "spicy" but that is maybe just me. There is something comforting in empanadas and my exposure though limited was elevated by the overall experience. This was my 2nd visit. A few years separated the visits. I ask myself why...but COVID answered that question as some tended to become recluses.
My daughter took me here for my Born Day. Listen these are the BEST empanadas ever. When you go try the Thai, Ham and cheese, the curry empanada...oh my wonderful. If you get three it also comes with a side salad.
This place is great! Awesome vibe, better food, & a staff that really understands & cares about food allergies. 15 different flavors of empanadas & they are baked, not fried. So delicious! 10/10 would recommend. Parking: Parking is atrocious, but worth the walk.
We decided on a platter to share for four individuals and it was so worth it! Very filling and generously portioned. We have our favorites but everything was delicious. Thank you Alyssa for your great, speedy service and La Masa for an awesome dining experience.
Great brunch spot. I came here for my birthday and ordered 3 empanadas and still had room for dinner. The ones in the picture are chorizo with potato, Carnitas, and shrimp curry. All three I’m a fan of, but the carnitas empanada was by far my personal favorite. I’m definitely coming back! Also the Nutella banana desert is a must try.
The empanada’s were delicious and the space was beautiful. I highly recommend the shrimp curry, cheese & poblano pepper and lastly the mushroom & truffle oil empanada.
Such a FUN restaurant! Love the variety, the atmosphere, and the concept of this bar. We sat down and ordered drinks, I got a Paloma "on tap" but it was way too sweet so the waiter brought me a Mojito. The Mojito on the other hand ROCKED. We got the 3 for $12 empanadas that came with their Jicama Slaw. The mushroom, chorizo & bean, and jamon empanadas were all great, but the chorizo & bean was the best one by far. That slaw though! I could eat a whole mixing bowl of it. Highly recommend La Masa if you're looking for a not-too-expensive dinner spot with fun drinks!
