We are a local Hispanic grocery/ restaurant business. we are one of a kind in the Des Moines, Urbandale, are. both Mexican Restaurant and Mexicana Store.

"We're La Tropicana Mexican Market, and we've been a Mexican grocery and restaurant here in Urbandale, IA, since 2015. We believe in offering our customers a full service experience and a community gathering place, with groceries, a full service meat counter, Hispanic bakery, liquor store and a restaurant. Jay started this business because his father had a grocery store in Mexico, and he wanted to bring that experience to the communities of Des Moines and Urbandale. We're looking forward to adding more locations to serve more customers in down town Des Moines, We'd like to personally invite you to stop by and try our full service meat counter, sample our unique Hispanic bakery, and enjoy a drink and some dinner on our patio, today!"

This was a pretty good place to eat. My wife got the chicken fajitas plate & it was huge, definitely enough for two people to split. I got the carne asada steak with peppers & onions. It was a bit tough but the flavor was good. The beans are actual beans & not the powdered reconstituted paste & my wife absolutely loved them. The Mexican rice was good & their chips & salsa were excellent. I definitely was not disappointed with this place, definitely going back!

A true hole in the wall place with outstanding food. It's in a strip mall so not conspicuous from the main street. I had the tilapia grilled with shrimp and hubby had the steak fajitas. The portions were huge and the food was delightful. The restaurant is attached to a grocery store so the vegetables and the fish was very fresh. We will definitely go back again.  The service was very kind and awesome.

Food was eh. Chips were too hard, the salsa wasn't fresh...it came from a jar. Service was good except when it came to check...they didn't bring my change back to table so I'm thinking they thought they would keep it as a tip. I definitely won't be returning.

One of the best authentic Mexican food around Des Moines.

Huge portions for the price, bursting with flavor! I ordered through doordash and was happy that they accommodated my requests. The food is delicious! I will order again!

Very few booths for dining. This is attached to a Mexican market that looked alot more busy than restaurant. Margheritas had no alcohol in them. I got a shrimp burrito...who puts mushrooms in with the shrimp,??? My husband got a tbone steak dish...steak was not a tbone!!! We did like the chips served with salsa and refried beans. Probably never going back here as unmemorable and food just muh!

Great food and nice outdoor dining area. The outdoor dining area was large with nice shade from trees surrounding the area. Very different flavors than some of the other Mexican restaurants in the area, in a good way. The food was very flavorful and the portions were quite large. The chips and salsa also came with beans as an appetizer.  The drinks were delicious and we enjoyed a Pina Colada.  I'll definitely be coming back.

The Don Julio Margarita is the best I have ever had.  The food is really really good as well.
