We contracted Legacy Outdoor Living to remodel our deck in late December of 2016. To be fair, we chose them above other firms because we'd used them previously to construct an outdoor kitchen and stone living space below the deck 4-5 years ago. That job we've been pleased with, however this job has been a "nightmare". First of all, it has taken almost 5 months to complete and work through various issues yet we are still experiencing problems. We paid for premium wood which was installed too tight creating a drainage problem and flooding the outdoor kitchen underneath. Their first remediation solution was to rip a seam between each board rather than incurring the labor cost to take them up and reinstall to allow drainage through the under-mount system. This may have worked if the contractor knew what he was doing but he did not. The seams were splintered, jagged and as you might imagine, the lines were far from straight. The principal, Nelson Bonilla, with whom we signed a contract shifted responsibility for removing the now damaged boards and reinstalling new boards to one of his subcontractors and advised us that Legacy Outdoor Living was "out of the picture and would not be liable for any further issues with the boards". Lucky for us the subcontractor was an honorable man who came back to fix the problem but Nelson told him it was his problem and that had to eat the cost. Which he did. And from Mr. Bonilla we got a release letter releasing him from any liability related to the floor boards. However, now whatever material Legacy Outdoor Living used to install posts is warping and pulling apart. Today, I contacted Nelson Bonilla to advise of this issue I was told "I suggest you contact your contractor". I signed a contract with Legacy Outdoor Living. So after approximately 5 months, I still don't have the quality of product I expected for which I have grossly overpaid for. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, period.
Legacy Outdoor Living was contracted to do two phases of our backyard renovation. The initial phase was completed according to expectation. However, the second phase was not. We grossly overpaid and Nelson seemed to only care about being compensated for the subpar work he had completed. The sprinkler system that was installed did not work properly, the trees that were planted were the not the size he contracted or promised and one fell over when it rained, the mulch in our beds are too thin, he did not cover the entire beds with landscaping fabric, his 'team' killed 1500 worth of trees on our property and he told us there was no proof despite their being and he gave us rocks instead of boulders and wanted to charge to swap them out. Whenever an issue was presented, he stated that the project was completed according to the contract and scope. If you desire anything different, he will try to charge even more. We can grossly dispute things he did not do, or corners he cut, based on HIS contract and scope. We took the time to reach out to Nelson directly to make notice of our dissatisfaction and he failed to respond. Based on his lack of care and regard, we are left with considering taking legal action based on the easily proven contract/scope discrepancies. We should have been on heightened alert and RAN the second time when he stated that his friends failed to contract him for work they had recently done. Landscaping projects can be quite costly, my advice to anyone would be to work with someone that you can trust and does work that they are able to stand behind with confidence!!! *two stars is only because the first experience was not as horrid*
So here I am not even one year later still trying to rectify the "deck from hell" I wrote about 9 months ago. I am now learning that Legacy did not know what they were doing. They didn't treat the deck boards so moisture is getting inside and causing expansion. Water is running over my deck into my outdoor kitchen and the stone is starting to separate. The posts have continued to warp and will have to be replaced. So not only did I over pay Nelson last summer for the deck work, I'm in a position where I have to redo "all" of Legacy Outdoor Living's work. PLEASE DO ME A FAVOR AND RUN FROM THIS COMPANY!
